2025 NFL Preview: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Head coach: Todd Bowles (fourth season) PFF projected win total: 9.4 2024 record: 10-7 (first in NFC South, lost in NFC wild-card round) Biggest Strength: Offensive Balance Tampa Bay was a top-eight team in PFF passing grade, PFF rushing grade, PFF receiving grade and PFF pass-blocking grade last season. The only other squad to accomplish that feat was the Baltimore Ravens. Baker Mayfield earned a career-high PFF overall grade, and rookie sensation Bucky Irving ranked fourth among qualified running backs in PFF overall grade (90.8). Mike Evans and Chris Godwin continue to headline an outstanding receiving corps, and Tristan Wirfs will lead an ascending offensive line. The only real question for this offense is its adjustment to new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard. Biggest Weakness: Middle-of-the-Field Coverage An unusually mediocre season from Antoine Winfield Jr. and coverage struggles at linebacker exposed […]

2025 NFL Preview: Seattle Seahawks

Mike Macdonald has a talented, versatile secondary to work as the foundation of his defense. Third-year man Devon Witherspoon has already proven himself to be one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, playing either outside or in the slot. Riq Woolen has racked up 11 interceptions and 28 pass breakups in his first three seasons. Julian Love earned a career-high 82.2 PFF overall grade last season. And the team added the uber-athletic Nick Emmanwori in the second round of this year’s draft.Seattle’s lack of a productive interior offensive line sank its 2024 season. That unit ranked 24th in PFF run-blocking grade and 29th in PFF pass-blocking grade while allowing the fifth-highest pressure rate in the NFL. For the most part, the Seahawks will be relying on a host of unproven young players to fill the void, including first-round pick […]

Packers acquire Cowboys star Micah Parsons: Breaking down the trade using PFF data

The Packers get one of the NFL's best defenders: Parsons ranks second in PFF WAR since 2021 and boslters a lackluster pass rush. Where do the Cowboys go from here?: Dallas could turn to Donovan Ezeiruaku for short-term answers, but the team's other high-paid stars are now in no-man's land. Estimated Reading Time: 6 minutes In an NFL offseason chock full of stunning transactions and trades, the league had another showstopper rabbit still lurking in its hat. With just a week until the start of the regular season, the Dallas Cowboys traded superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for two first-round picks and defensive lineman Kenny Clark. The move comes after Parsons’ quest for a new contract dragged on for over a year with minimal traction. Green Bay pounced, making Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback […]

2025 NFL Preview: San Francisco 49ers

Head Coach: Kyle Shanahan (ninth season) PFF projected win total: 10.0 2024 Record: 6-11 (fourth in NFC West) Biggest Strength: Offensive Star Power When healthy — a big caveat of late — the 49ers have as much offensive firepower as any NFL team. Brock Purdy is an above-average starting quarterback. Christian McCaffrey was the best running back in the NFL in 2023. Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall comprise a solid group of young wide receivers. George Kittle is the best tight end in the NFL, and the offensive line is a solid unit headlined by Trent Williams and Dominick Puni. If McCaffrey, Aiyuk and Williams, in particular, are healthy, the 49ers still have a dangerous offensive unit. Biggest Weakness: Defensive Line Beyond Nick Bosa, San Francisco lacks proven defensive line depth. The front office drafted three such players […]

NFL preseason’s biggest roster battles: Who came out on top?

Daniel Jones is the Colts' starting quarterback … for now: Jones is much more consistent than Anthony Richardson Sr. at this point with his underneath accuracy, but it’s entirely possible, if not probable, that Richardson will play at some point in 2025. Estimated Reading Time: 6 minutes Many of the biggest stories to come out of NFL training camps and the preseason are those about players who win starting jobs. Significant roster turnover is a theme throughout the league each offseason, and new starters must emerge for teams to maintain success in the regular season. Here, we’ll break down some of the biggest camp battles that were decided in the closing hours of the preseason. Indianapolis Colts‘ Starting Quarterback The hottest quarterback competition in the NFL took place in Indianapolis this preseason, and Daniel Jones wrestled the starting job away […]

2025 NFL Preview: Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh’s pass rush is arguably the most fearsome defensive unit in the NFL. Not only do they have elite talents like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward, but they also bring considerable depth. The Steelers retained five defensive linemen who rushed the passer at least 200 times last season and earned at least a 76.8 PFF pass-rush grade. Pittsburgh’s young offensive tackles will face heavy scrutiny this season as they are tasked with protecting their 41-year-old quarterback. Broderick Jones is slated to move to left tackle after earning sub-60.0 PFF overall grades on the right side in each of his first two seasons. Second-year man Troy Fautanu played just one game last season before suffering a season-ending knee injury. He’s projected to start at right tackle, where he has logged fewer than 100 snaps across his college and NFL careers. Rodgers faced plenty […]

Stock up, stock down for rookies after the 2025 NFL preseason

Isaac TeSlaa showed out across four games: The Lions rookie caught four of his five contested targets, brought in three touchdowns and earned an excellent 84.0 PFF receiving grade. The Cardinals have yet to see what Walter Nolen can do: Similar to last year with Darius Robinson, Arizona is dealing with an injured first-rounder who is sidelined with an uncertain return timetable. Estimated Reading Time: 5 minutes The preseason is over, and many of the NFL’s rookies showed off their talents en route to a higher standing on their respective rosters. Some of them also battled adversity and could face an uphill battle for playing time in the regular season. With the regular season around the corner, we’ll examine a few of the players who saw their stock rise or fall based on preseason events. Stock Up: QB Jaxson Dart, […]

2025 NFL Preview: Philadelphia Eagles

Head Coach: Nick Sirianni (fifth season) PFF projected win total: 11.1 2024 Record: 14-3 (first in NFC East, won Super Bowl) Biggest strength: Defense In Vic Fangio’s first year as defensive coordinator, the Eagles fielded the highest-graded defense in the NFL — and it wasn’t particularly close. Philadelphia ranked first or second in team run-defense grade, pass-rush grade, and coverage grade. The unit remains largely intact, returning eight qualified players who earned a 70.0-plus PFF grade last season, including linebacker Zack Baun and cornerback Cooper DeJean, who led the NFL at their respective positions. Biggest weakness: Passing Game Consistency The Eagles had few flaws during their championship run, but passing-game consistency wasn’t always a strength. Much of that centered around Jalen Hurts, who played lights-out in the final two postseason games but finished the regular season ranked just 23rd in […]

Safety Keyon Martin's pick-six propels him to No. 1: The Ravens undrafted free agent intercepted Sam Hartman and returned it 22 yards for a score, the highlight of his impressive effort overall. Another Eagles edge rusher is flashing: Antwaun Powell-Ryland, a sixth-round pick, earned the second-highest PFF pass-rush grade among edge defenders this past weekend (94.0). Estimated Reading Time: 8 minutes We're diving into the top rookies by PFF overall grade from Week 3 of the 2025 NFL preseason. To qualify, players needed to log at least 25 snaps. 1. CB Keyon Martin, Baltimore Ravens (94.2) Martin picked off Washington quarterback Sam Hartman in Saturday’s finale, returning it 22 yards for a touchdown to give the Ravens a 20-point lead near halftime.
