Shedeur Sanders‘ long wait to hear his name called during the 2025 NFL Draft ended in a moment of pure joy and he made sure to soak it in with his family by his side.
After spending three agonizing days watching 143 players get drafted ahead of him, and even enduring a cruel prank call along the way, Sanders finally got his moment when the Cleveland Browns selected him with the 144th overall pick in the fifth round.

The moment Sanders received the call from the Browns, he immediately broke into a celebratory dance with his brother Shilo Sanders, who had just signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
But the good vibes didn’t stop there. Shedeur quickly grabbed his mother, Pilar Sanders, and his sister, Shelomi Sanders, to keep the party going.
Decked out with a flashy, expensive chain around his neck, Shedeur couldn’t contain his excitement. He even jumped fully clothed into the swimming pool after the draft call, adding an unforgettable splash to an already emotional day.
A family celebration filled with pride and laughter
After the official news was in, the Sanders family posed for a picture that captured the pride of the moment – Shedeur, Shilo, Pilar, Shelomi, and their father, NFL legend Deion Sanders, stood together, celebrating not just one, but two family members taking the next step into professional sports.
Shelomi, a college basketball player herself, later shared the epic family photo on her social media, writing: “Proof that greatness runs deep.” It was a touching tribute to a family that has long prioritized hard work, resilience, and celebrating each other’s milestones.
On TikTok, Shedeur posted a video of himself dancing with his mom and sister, showing that even after one of the most grueling experiences of his young career, his sense of humor and spirit remained intact. It was a reminder that, for all the pressure and scrutiny that comes with being a Sanders, family always comes first.
Earlier during the weekend, Shedeur had likened the experience of waiting for his name to be called to being like a wrongly accused man stuck in prison – a painful but honest glimpse into how much the wait had weighed on him mentally. And yet, when the call finally came, he chose to embrace the moment with gratitude rather than bitterness.
