Bei den Olympischen Spielen 2024 feierte die Österreicherin Lara Vadlau (31) den bislang größten Erfolg ihrer Karriere: Segel-Gold in der 470er-Mixed-Klasse mit Lukas Mähr (35). Mit „Sky“ hat sie jetzt über ihren Ruf in der männerdominierten Segel-Szene gesprochen – und wurde dabei sehr deutlich.
[–>Vadlau: „Soll ich Ihnen sagen, wie mein Ruf ist oder wie man mich nennt beim Segelsport? Es ist jetzt nur ein Gerücht, es stimmt nicht, aber man sagt über mich, dass ich Männern die Eier abhacke, weil ich halt immer sage, was ich denke.“
Und weiter: „Ich werde auch als Sklaventreiberin bezeichnet, was natürlich super überzogen ist. Wenn man ein Ziel hat und was erreichen will, dann hilft aber kein Bitte und Danke.“

Die Knallharte Lara! Dabei kann sie auch ganz anders. Die Österreicherin hat erfolgreich ihr Medizinstudium abgeschlossen und wurde 2023 sogar zu „Dr. med. univ.“ promoviert. Für ihre wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten erhielt sie den Forschungspreis der Österreichischen Gesellschaft für Plastische, Ästhetische und Rekonstruktive Chirurgie.
Vadlau sagt selbst: „Das ist ein Kontrast zu meinem Medizinleben, wo ich Menschen helfen darf und für Menschen da bin.“

Klar ist: Ihr früherer Vorschoter Mähr hat inzwischen die Segel gestrichen und ist in Rente gegangen. Das Olympia-Projekt für 2028 in Los Angeles (14. bis 30. Juli 2028) startet Vadlau nun gemeinsam mit Niklas Haberl.
Zu dem Österreicher sagt die Olympiasiegerin: „Was mir immer imponiert hat, ist, dass er absolut will. Er ist unfassbar ehrgeizig, ihn nervt es mindestens genauso wie mich, wenn er nicht da performt, wo er eigentlich performen möchte. Das ist auch wohl die beste Grundvoraussetzung. Er brennt richtig dafür, er steht voll in den Startlöchern und will es der Welt beweisen, dass er es auch drauf hat. Etwas Besseres gibt es gar nicht.“
