Stephen Curry Injury Update: Steve Kerr offers major insight into the Warriors star’s status

The Golden State Warriors kicked off their second-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves with a statement win, taking Game 1 with a 99-88 triumph at Chase Center. Yet despite the dominant performance, the victory came with a cloud of uncertainty-and concern-after Stephen Curry exited early with a hamstring injury.

The two-time MVP and emotional leader of the Warriors left the game in the second quarter, visibly clutching his left hamstring. In just 13 minutes of play, Curry had already put up 13 points and helped build a 10-point lead, setting the tone before disaster struck. His absence was felt not only in the box score but in the collective gasp from the home crowd.

Curry Likely Out for Game 2

Speaking after the game, head coach Steve Kerr delivered a sobering update.

“Just day-to-day. We’ll get an MRI tomorrow,” Kerr said. “Talked to him at halftime-he’s obviously crushed-but the guys picked him up and played a great game.”

While the Warriors showcased their depth and resilience, Kerr didn’t hide his apprehension about Curry’s short-term availability.

Game Recap: Nuggets 121, Thunder 119

“We’re definitely game planning for him not to be available on Thursday,” he admitted. “We don’t know yet. But with a hamstring, it’s hard to imagine he’d play Thursday.”

That cautious tone casts doubt over Curry’s status for Game 2 on May 8-a potentially pivotal moment in the series. The star guard had been instrumental in the first round, averaging 24 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. His absence could significantly alter the team’s dynamic, especially when it comes to floor spacing and leadership.

Draymond, Hield, and Butler Step Up

Still, Golden State found a way to power through. Draymond Green, stepping into a leadership role, set the tempo early with 16 first-half points and finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. Buddy Hield provided the knockout blow, scoring a game-high 24 points and drilling a clutch corner three that halted a late Timberwolves surge.

Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler showed why he was one of the most impactful acquisitions of the season. The veteran forward delivered a near triple-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists, bringing stability and intensity on both ends of the floor.

While the Warriors proved they can adapt in the moment, the looming question of Curry’s availability threatens to reshape the rest of the series. For now, all eyes are on that MRI-and the hope that the heartbeat of the Warriors will return sooner rather than later.

The Steelers continue to control their destiny after taking care of business on primetime. Pittsburgh used a big third quarter and did enough in the final period to take down Miami 28-15 on Monday night at Acrisure Stadium, staying a game ahead of Baltimore (7-7) for first place in the AFC North.
