Šampionát formule 1 se poprvé v aktuální sezoně přesouvá do Evropy. Stáje jsou už i s piloty na místě sedmého závodu tohoto ročníku v italské Imole. Jak bývá ve čtvrtek před závodním víkendem zvykem, probíhají přípravy na páteční tréninky a rozhovory s novináři.
Jeden z pilotů se ale svých mediálních povinností nezúčastnil. Monačan Charles Leclerc z Ferrari podle vyjádření italské stáje vynechal čtvrteční „media day“ z důvodu nemoci.

„Charlesovi není dobře a během dneška se na závodním okruhu neobjeví,“ stojí v prohlášení Ferrari. „Odpočine si a nabere síly. Očekáváme, že už zítra bude schopný usednout do svého vozu.“
Všichni piloti mají povinnost se během čtvrtka dostavit na rozhovory se zástupci médií a na domluvené schůzky s mechaniky.
Přesto se stává, že některý z jezdců tuto povinnost nesplní. Musí pro to mít závažný důvod, jako je například nemoc. Posledním pilotem, který letos své mediální povinnosti vynechal, byl v minulém závodě v Miami Max Verstappen z Red Bullu. Ten absentoval, aby byl spolu se svou přítelkyní Kelly Piquetovou, jíž se narodila dcera Lily.
Leclerc je aktuálně v žebříčku jezdců na pátém místě s 53 body a ztrátou 40 bodů na čtvrtého George Russella z Mercedesu. Nejlepším letošním výsledkem pilota Ferrari je třetí místo ze Saúdské Arábie, které zůstává jediným letošním pódiem stáje z hlavního závodu.
V předchozí Velké ceně Miami skončil Leclerc sedmý. Po onom závodě se na celou jeho stáj snesla vlna kritiky za nezvládnutou strategii a týmové pokyny. Monačan si dvakrát měnil pozici s týmovým kolegou Lewisem Hamiltonem. Kvůli ztrátám způsobeným otálením s výměnou pozic ale oba červené monoposty přišly o možnost dojet šestého Antonelliho.
Závod v Imole je pro italskou stáj důležitý nejen pro další možnost zlepšit s pomocí prvního balíčku vylepšení vozů dosavadní neuspokojivé výkony, ale zároveň jde i o první domácí závod Ferrari. Ten druhý v Monze je naplánován na 7. září.

Letošní sezona seriálu formule 1 začala 16. března Velkou cenou Austrálie a končí 7. prosince v Abú Zabí. Titul mezi jezdci obhajuje Nizozemec Max Verstappen z Red Bullu a mezi stájemi britský McLaren.
