Die HSG Wetzlar hat prompt zugegriffen. Bei einem Linksaußen, der bei der letzten Weltmeisterschaft in Dänemark, Kroatien und Norwegen auf sich aufmerksam gemacht hat.

Die Rede ist vom Ägypter Ahmed Hesham Nafea. Nafea erreichte mit seiner Nation bei der WM das Viertelfinale, Ägypten flog dort haarscharf gegen Frankreich (33:34) raus. Der Linksaußen belegte bei Turnierende in der Statistik der treffsichersten Spieler den starken dritten Platz, er verwandelte 88 Prozent seiner Torwürfe.
„Es ist unbedingt notwendig, dass wir uns auf der Linksaußen-Position verstärken“, sagt Wetzlars Sportchef Jasmin Camdzic. „Als mit Ahmed ein Spieler auf den Markt kam, der auf internationalem Parkett in einer Top-Acht-Nation seine Klasse unter Beweis gestellt hat und mit seiner Flexibilität in der Deckung zudem unsere taktischen Möglichkeiten erhöht, haben wir gehandelt. Wir freuen uns sehr, dass er sich für uns entschieden hat.“
[–>Nafea kommt vom serbischen Topklub RK Vojvodina, er hat bis 30. Juni 2027 in Wetzlar unterschrieben. Der Ägypter: „Mein Ziel war es immer, in die Bundesliga zu kommen. Ich freue mich, dass dieser Traum nun in Erfüllung geht.“
Sein neuer Trainer Momir Ilic: „Ahmed bringt erst einmal eine gute handballerische Qualität mit. Er hat bei der Weltmeisterschaft Anfang dieses Jahres eine fast hundertprozentige Wurfquote gehabt. Dazu gefällt mir sein Charakter. Er ist ein Spieler, der nie aufgibt. Diese Mentalität brauchen wir. Das passt zu dem Stil, der mir für unsere Mannschaft vorschwebt.“
In der Bundesliga geht es für Wetzlar erst kommenden Mittwoch (19 Uhr, live bei Dyn/Anzeige) mit dem Heimspiel gegen den TBV Lemgo Lippe weiter. Die HSG braucht noch mindestens einen Sieg, um alle Abstiegsängste restlos zu verscheuchen.
