Spoluhráč Davida Pastrňáka a Jakuba Lauka z Bostonu má u svého jména připsaných 11 kanadských bodů za sedm branek a čtyři asistence.

Švédsko má poslední zlato z MS 2018 a z posledních pěti šampionátů čtyřikrát chybělo v bojích o medaile.

Hostí jej Švédsko a Dánsko, konkrétně města Stockholm a Herning.

Manchester United have had darker days but I’ve never felt so low about them

I’ve never felt as low about Manchester United in all my life following Wednesday night’s Europa League final defeat. This is statistically the worst United team I’ve seen, one which will finish just above the Premier League relegation places.I was born in the relegation season, 1973-74, and was only six months old when the team that were supposedly too good to go down did just that, so that doesn’t count.AdvertisementManchester United have been dreadful all season, showing relegation form since Ruben Amorim took over in November. It’s that bad.But all along there was a hope, the light of a Europa League win, a trophy, a golden ticket into the Champions League. It was always improbable, yet possible. Before the Real Sociedad home game in the last 16, one United official told me there was a 20 per cent chance of success […]

Aston Villa’s record against Man United is terrible, even under Emery – he must fix it on Sunday

Old Trafford is an unhappy hunting ground for Aston Villa. In 29 appearances, they have only won there twice, with five draws and the rest defeats. They have kept just four clean sheets at Old Trafford, and scored 18 goals while conceding 59.The history is damning and reflective. For so long, a gulf stood between the teams. Manchester United were the intimidating giants of English football. Whoever stepped foot in their house got short shrift. Villa were not the only side to be dispatched easily and frequently.AdvertisementThe gulf offered mitigation to an extent. Villa could hardly match United on or off the pitch. The same cannot be said now. Villa’s trajectory continues upwards while United, stuck in a constant churn of botched new eras and a cycle of crises, have plummeted. With one Premier League fixture left this season, they are yet […]

Arsenal, three second places, and a time for self-assessment

In 2001, while the national stadium at Wembley was being rebuilt and cup finals were relocated to Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, the journey home to north London from losing the FA Cup’s showpiece was longer, and more painful, than ever.Arsenal’s sucker punch defeat galled them to the core. The club photographer, Stuart Macfarlane, sat on the bus next to one of the vanquished players and tried to come up with some words of consolation. “Don’t worry,” he said, “we will be back next year.” But, as he recalled in the book The Wenger Revolution, as soon as the words were out of his mouth, he privately admonished himself, wondering why the hell he said that. AdvertisementAt the time, Arsenal were struck down by a serious case of seconditis. For three seasons in a row, they finished runner-up in the title race. During […]

Fantasy Premier League: Every burning question answered ahead of Gameweek 38

It’s the final gameweek of the season in Fantasy Premier League and, as ever, there are likely to be plenty of surprises. Typically, in Gameweek 38, we see rotated line-ups, teams ‘on the beach’ for their last game before going off on summer holidays and some big scorelines — over the previous five years, this final gameweek has averaged more than 20 per cent more goals per match than the rest of that season. AdvertisementAll we can do is prepare the best that we can with the information available to us — and hope for some luck. Here, we will address some burning questions and provide general advice on how to approach Gameweek 38. Consider expected goals and clean sheets Before looking at transfers and team selections, have a look at FPL analyst Rob T’s numbers for expected goals and clean sheets. These are from […]

How Tottenham celebrated Europa League triumph: Confetti cannons, cigars and Wonderwall

Ange Postecoglou stepped onto a small stage in a function room at Hotel Carlton in Bilbao, where Tottenham Hotspur hosted their post-Europa League final celebrations. He waited momentarily for the crowd of players, staff, family and friends to settle before putting his hand up and saying, “I’m used to people listening when I talk,” jolting the group into silence.Advertisement“I made family a big theme for us as a group this year,” he said. “How important family is. These boys, I’m so proud of them. And the staff. They’ve been the best family I could ever be associated with, but more importantly, it’s how everyone in this room has helped these boys become champions.“They truly deserve it. They’re outstanding people, not just outstanding players. I couldn’t be prouder to be their manager. I want everyone to enjoy tonight and what it means […]

How Real Madrid won the race to sign Dean Huijsen – beating Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and more

A list of clubs that reads like a who’s who of European football queued up to sign Dean Huijsen this summer, in some cases talking contracts with the player’s agent and his father one minute and playing padel with the two of them the next. But the story behind the deal for one of European football’s most talented young defenders starts and ends in the same place — the Spanish capital — and goes back a lot further than people might imagine.AdvertisementReal Madrid’s interest has been there in one way or another for years and not just the last couple of months, when everything started to gather momentum on the back of Huijsen winning his first Spain cap in March and, critically, Xabi Alonso making it clear that he wanted the Bournemouth centre-back at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid’s manager in waiting […]
