Bittere Nachricht nach einem bitteren Qualifying.

Lewis Hamilton (40) raste im Zeitfahren für den Großen Preis von Monaco (Sonntag 15 Uhr, Sky) auf Platz vier. Ein solides Ergebnis, doch der siebenmalige Formel-1-Weltmeister musste sich zum wiederholten Male seinem Ferrari-Teamkollegen Charles Leclerc (27) geschlagen geben. Der Monegasse wurde bei seinem Heimspiel im Fürstentum Zweiter hinter McLarens Lando Norris (25).

Während Leclerc beim Grand Prix am Sonntag noch Siegchancen hat, dürfte das Rennen für Hamilton noch vor dem Start gelaufen sein. Denn: Der Brite wurde im Nachhinein für ein Vergehen während des Qualifyings bestraft. Hamilton wird nach hinten versetzt!

Statt von Startplatz vier geht der Ferrari-Superstar nun von Rang sieben ins Rennen. Auslöser war ein Vorfall mit Weltmeister Max Verstappen (27). Hamilton hatte den Red-Bull-Piloten auf dessen schneller Runde behindert, schlich mit seinem Roten Renner auf der Ideallinie herum, als der Holländer angerast kam.

Bitter: Hamilton selbst trifft keine Schuld! Der Ex-Mercedes-Fahrer hatte von seinem Renningenieur zwar die Information bekommen, dass sich Verstappen hinter ihm befindet, doch er keinen Platz machen müsse, weil der RB-Pilot ebenfalls langsam unterwegs sei. Ein Fehler!

[–>Verstappen fluchte (verständlicherweise) heftig am Teamradio – nach dem Qualifying zeigten sich die beiden ehemaligen Erzfeinde aber versöhnlich. Hamilton entschuldigte sich prompt bei dem WM-Dritten.

Der Brite zu der Szene: „Es gab vom Team die Ansage, dass Max auf einer schnellen Runde ist, deshalb war ich links unterwegs. Dann sagten sie: ‚Nein, er ist nicht auf einer schnellen Runde.‘“ Und weiter: „Ich wollte gerade wieder Gas geben. Ich habe 10 Meter beschleunigt. Ich habe ihn definitiv abgelenkt.“

Verstappen: „Es ist nicht die Schuld von Lewis“

Verstappen: „Wenn man mit hoher Geschwindigkeit ankommt und dann von einem Auto blockiert wird – das ist nicht schön. Ich habe mitbekommen, dass das Team ihm gesagt hat, ich sei auf einer langsamen Runde. Obwohl ich eindeutig schnell unterwegs war. Es ist also nicht Lewis’ Schuld.“

Bestraft wurde er trotzdem.
