The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps, provides benefits to more than 42 million residents to access essential food across the United States.

This federal program represents a key support for those facing economic hardship.

Although the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) oversees the SNAP benefits nationally, each state administers its implementation independently.

In Florida, the Department of Children and Families is responsible for managing the benefits.

Eligible individuals receive an Electronic Benefits Transfer ( EBT) card, similar to a debit card. Funds are deposited each month and can only be used on authorized products.

Permitted items include nutritious foods such as proteins, carbohydrates, essential fats, fruits and vegetables. The aim of the program is to provide a balanced diet that will help prevent health problems associated with malnutrition, such as scurvy.

However, SNAP benefits do not cover the purchase of hot or ready-to-eat foods, nor alcohol, cigarettes, gasoline or other non-food items. Those who break the program’s rules could lose access to assistance.

Who will receive their SNAP payment in Florida next week in May?

People who receive the benefits of the program in the state of Florida do so every month with payment dates ranging from the 1st to the 28th of each month.

The schedule is determined according to the eighth and ninth digits of the beneficiary’s Florida case number, excluding the 10th digit.

The schedule takes the ninth and eighth digits of your case number, read backwards, excluding the tenth digit, a system that ensures a smooth distribution process to stagger payments throughout the month.

These are the people who will be able to receive their benefits in the last week of May 2025:

  • Case number 89-92: benefits available on the 26th of each month
  • Case number 93-95: benefits available on the 27th of each month
  • Case number 96-99 benefits available on the 28th of each month

Miguel Amaya exits with injury in Cubs loss, a blow to one of MLB’s best catching duos

Cubs catcher Miguel Amaya exited in the fifth inning of Saturday’s 6-4 loss to the Reds in Cincinnati with a left oblique strain, a blow to one of the best catching duos in baseball. After the game, manager Craig Counsell told media in Cincinnati that Amaya would be headed to the injured list.It wasn’t long ago that the Cubs’ catching situation appeared irreparable, with Amaya’s development seemingly stalled. At the start of last July, the position was producing a 32 wRC+ for the team, 29th in baseball. The combined minus-1.9 fWAR was dead last.Advertisement“Those numbers, when you’re at the bottom of the league, that just hurts,” Counsell said earlier this season. “That hurts team offense, for sure. At that position, when you can be a real difference maker offensively, that’s impactful. No question about it.”Team president Jed Hoyer searched for […]

Big Ten, SEC plans for College Football Playoff are only getting more nonsensical

You’ve probably been busy the past three months going to work, paying bills, living your life. You probably haven’t been following every incremental development in the ongoing negotiations over the future format of the College Football Playoff beginning in 2026. So, allow me to catch you up.In February, the leaders of the Big Ten and SEC held a joint meeting in New Orleans where they earnestly discussed what could be described as a coup. They would flex their muscle to expand the CFP to 14 teams and guarantee themselves four berths each, regardless of where their teams are ranked. The ACC and Big 12 would each get two, the Group of 5 conferences one.AdvertisementWord got out, and the news was met with intense backlash from a public accustomed to postseason tournaments being based on the results of the season in […]
