Stockholm (od našeho zpravodaje) – Žádná otevřená přestřelka se nekonala. Hokejisté obou týmů si byli vědomi, co je v sázce, a tak defenzivy měly jednoznačně navrch nad útočnou snahou.
Švýcaři v Avicii Areně, kde zůstalo prázdných několik stovek míst, měli dle očekávání jasnou fanouškovskou převahu. A mírně aktivnější byli v první třetině také na ledě. Největší tutovkou v přesilovce však dorážející Nino Niederreiter pohrdl a poslal puk jen do připraveného Swaymana.
Na druhé straně se Leonardo Genoni pořádně zapotil až během prostřední části. V ní totiž Američané postupně zvyšovali tempo, ale vedení z toho vytěžit nedokázali. K dispozici přitom po faulu na Nazara dostali trestné střílení, Conor Garland však zakončil jen do betonů gólmana.
Již 37letý Genoni měl více práce i v závěrečné třetině. Dost si musel oddychnout po Kellerově tvrdém zakončení, které mu vypadlo z lapačky a kotouč se obloukem snesl jen pár centimetrů před brankovou čáru, kde ho zachytili obránci.
MS v hokeji 2025
88. ročník mistrovství světa v hokeji byl na programu v termínu od 9. do 25. května 2025. Hostilo jej Švédsko a Dánsko, konkrétně města Stockholm a Herning a z mistrovského titulu se radují hokejisté USA.
Švýcaři poté zvládli oslabení, a tak se šlo do nekonečného prodloužení hraného tři na tři. Genoni natáhl sérii bez inkasovaného gólu už na 243 minut a 37 sekund, čímž překonal rekord Fina Pekky Rinneho (238:05) z MS v Praze 2015.
Historický zápis a celkem 39 zákroků ve finále však smutnému švýcarskému hrdinovi nebyl nic platný. Už po 122 sekundách nastaveného času zamířil do útoku po pravé straně Thompson a ranou přes obránce vypálil přesně ke vzdálenější tyči. Odstartoval tak nekončící euforii USA, ale také smutek a slzy celého Švýcarska, které prohrálo i čtvrtý souboj o zlato v novodobé historii (2013, 2018, 2024 a 2025).
