Es gab bisher 36 Duelle beider Klubs, 20 gewann Berlin, Melsungen zwölf und viermal endete die Partie unentschieden Füchse-Boss Bob Hanning zu SPORT BILD: „Spannender geht es nicht, größer denken geht nicht und unterschiedlicher geht auch nicht.“

Hanning: „Da treffen zwei Mannschaften aufeinander, die einen anderen Weg an die Spitze gewählt haben und jetzt angekommen sind. Wir Füchse kommen aus einer ganz anderen Welt. Melsungen hat nach ihrem Aufstieg aus der 2. Liga viel Geld in die Hand genommen. Während ich immer gesagt habe: Wir gewinnen die Euroleague mit dem eigenen Nachwuchs, als die Champions League zu kaufen.“

Die MT Melsungen ist im Jahr 2005 aus der 2. Handball-Bundesliga aufgestiegen, die Füchse Berlin im Jahr 2007. Jetzt sind beide Klubs ganz scharf auf ihre erste Meisterschaft! Für Melsungen wäre es sogar der erste Titel überhaupt.

Füchse-Sportvorstand Stefan Kretzschmar (52): „Wir haben den dünnsten Kader der Liga, sind nahezu verletzungsfrei geblieben. Neben der spektakulären Leistung von Mathias Gidsel sind unsere jungen Spieler an den internationalen Stars im Team enorm gewachsen.“

Während Melsungen in den letzten Wochen bitterböse Verletzungen wegstecken musste …

Hanning lobt: „Melsungen hat jede Verletzung kompensieren können, gute Nachkäufe getätigt, gute Personalpolitik. Allendorf und Parrondo machen einen guten Job.“

Und Kretzsche weiß: „Es ist das letzte große Top-Spiel, alle haben gedacht, es wird das Spiel Magdeburg gegen Flensburg, wo es um die Meisterschaft geht. Jetzt sind wir es. Ich ziehe den Hut vor Melsungen, wie die das dieses Jahr geschafft haben, großer Respekt. Die haben inzwischen auch einen guten Teamgeist und haben sich beeindruckend durch die Saison gespielt.“
