Benfica are set to include full-back Alvaro Carreras in their Club World Cup squad despite transfer interest from Real Madrid.
The Athletic reported in May that Madrid were in talks with the Lisbon club to re-sign their former academy graduate, and while no agreement is yet in place, further club-to-club talks are anticipated.

The Spanish side had been aiming to complete the 22-year-old’s signing before this summer’s tournament in the United States, but no agreement has been reached and he is expected to play for Benfica in the competition.
Carreras played for Madrid’s academy between 2017 and 2019 before joining Manchester United, where he did not make a senior appearance.
Madrid have already completed the signings of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, from Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively, ahead of the tournament.
Carreras is Madrid’s primary target at left-back this summer, while Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Alejandro Grimaldo of Bayer Leverkusen also under consideration.
Benfica start their Club World Cup campaign against Boca Juniors on June 16 before playing Auckland City four days later and concluding their group against Bayern Munich on June 24.
Madrid play Al Hilal, Pachuca and RB Salzburg in their group in the newly-expanded tournament.
