Pětatřicetiletá Kvitová nefigurovala minulý týden v seznamu přihlášených hráček poté, co nevyužila takzvaný chráněný žebříček. Její rozhodnutí vedlo ke spekulacím, zda 572. hráčka současného pořadí WTA neočekává od pořadatelů v All England Clubu udělení divoké karty. To se dnes potvrdilo.
Kvitová je také jedinou nebritskou tenistkou, která tuto možnost dostala. Spolu s ní obdržely divokou kartu například Jodie Burrageová, Harriet Dartová, Francesca Jonesová či Heather Watsonová.
Vítězka 31 turnajů na okruhu WTA Kvitová sehrála zatím po loňském porodu syna Petra na trávě jediné utkání. V minulém týdnu vypadla na turnaji v Londýně v 1. kole po třísetové porážce s Brazilkou Beatriz Haddadovou Maialovou. Z aktuálního turnaje v Nottinghamu se odhlásila vůli zranění pravé kyčle.
Kvitová po návratu vyhrála jediný ze sedmi duelů, do kterých nastoupila. Uspěla jen na květnovém antukovém turnaji v Římě, kde porazila Rumunku Irinu-Camelii Beguovou. Ve Wimbledonu se naposledy před dvěma lety probojovala do osmifinále, kde nestačila na Tunisanku Uns Džábirovou. Letošní ročník londýnského grandslamu začne 30. června.
