Eugenio Suarez hit two of Arizona’s four home runs to reach 300 for his career, and the Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 14-8 in Denver on Friday night.
Suarez, who tied his season high with four hits, connected in the fifth and sixth innings. Ketel Marte homered, doubled twice and drove in five runs and Ildemaro Vargas finished a triple shy of the cycle to pace the Diamondbacks’ season-high 21-hit attack.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. also finished with three hits while Randal Grichuk, Tim Tawa and Jose Herrera had two hits apiece for Arizona. Zac Gallen (5-8) allowed seven runs on 10 hits in five innings.
Mickey Moniak homered among his two hits, Ryan McMahon also homered and Brenton Doyle, Ryan Ritter and Tyler Freeman had two hits apiece for Colorado.
Austin Gomber (0-1) was roughed up in his first home start of the season. He allowed nine runs on 12 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
The Diamondbacks took a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and second innings, and Colorado got to Gallen in the third. Ritter doubled to left and scored on Freeman’s two-out single to make it 2-1, but Arizona expanded its lead in the fourth.
Grichuk led off with a triple, Tawa walked and Vargas singled to left to drive in Grichuk. One out later Marte homered, his 13th of the season.
The Rockies answered in the bottom of the inning. McMahon led off with his 12tj homer of the season, Doyle had a one-out double and Moniak homered to make it 6-4, his 10th on the year.
Ritter, Jordan Beck and Freeman hit two-out singles to bring home another run and Hunter Goodman’s double to left put Colorado ahead, 7-6. However, Suarez tied it with his first homer leading off the fifth and Vargas put Arizona ahead later in the inning with his first of the season, a two-run shot to left.
Suarez’s 24th of the season extended the lead in the sixth and Marte had a two-run double in the seventh.
