Pořadatelé z All England Clubu v roce 2010 zmrazili cenu jahod na 2 libry a 50 pencí za porci. Všichni už si na to zvykli. Web dailymail.co.uk ale oznámil, že letos už to bude za víc – 2,70. Zdůvodňuje to zvyšujícími se provozními náklady.
Jahody ve Wimbledonu patří k tradici skoro jako předepsané oblečení bez výstřelků pro hráče a hráčky. Proto informace na ostrovech budí pozornost.
„Rozhodli jsme se letos mírně zvýšit cenu jahod. Myslíme si, že i tento mírný růst stále zajišťuje, že naše světoznámé jahody budou k dispozici za velmi rozumnou cenu,“ přináší web stanovisko pořadatelů z All England Clubu.
Nabízí i jahodové kalkulace. Klub prodá přibližně 140 000 nádobek během jednoho ročníku, což znamená, že nová cena přinese dalších 28 000 liber, což třeba vedle částek, které se vyplácejí tenistům, nevypadá nijak výrazně.
Vítěz(ka) dvouhry si letos odnese 3 miliony liber. Účastník prvního kola 66 000.
Jahody ale samozřejmě jsou jen nepatrnou součástí celkové nabídky.
Ale co je podstatné pro fandy? Rozhodně nemusejí až tolik zoufat. Web hned připomíná, že Wimbledon se poněkud liší od ostatních velkých sportovních akcí, na které si často nemůžete přinést žádné občerstvení.
V All England Clubu lze hodovat z vlastních přinesených zdrojů – je povoleno mít s sebou třeba i alkohol. Takže šetřivější návštěvníci si mohou vzít i vlastní jahody. Třeba i kila jahod pocházejících odkudkoli. Ale nemají jednu záruku. Ty, které se podávají ve Wimbledonu, jsou natrhané výhradně ráno toho dne, kdy se hraje. Pocházejí z rodinné farmy Hugha Lowea z Kentu.
