Jonathan Owens, defensive player for the Chicago Bears, tried to show off his agility in a simple challenge… but ended up confusing the game with a football play. In a viral video, Owens took part in the “stick challenge,” a drill that tests reflexes by catching sticks that fall randomly. Only he didn’t catch them. He knocked them away like loose footballs.

What was curious wasn’t just the mistake, but the natural way he reacted, as if his field instincts had fully kicked in. Instead of catching the sticks, he swatted them to the side, making it clear his mind was more in “turnover” mode than “focus game” mode. Fans quickly joked about the moment: “Jonathan… it was to catch them, not defend the ball,” read some of the comments.
Owens, 29 years old, is no rookie in the NFL. He has played for teams like the Texans, Packers, and now the Bears, racking up more than 260 tackles and appearing in over 60 games. He’s married to Olympic legendSimone Biles, which makes many expect coordination at another level. And he has it… just on his second try.
Third time’s the charm… or the second?
Because yes, after the first fail, Owens composed himself. On his second turn, he caught the sticks precisely and showed why he has come so far in his career. Hand speed, focus, and years of experience were clear when he realized this wasn’t a defensive drill, but a game to show reflexes.
