Major League Soccer announced the roster for its upcoming All-Star Game on Wednesday evening. A total of 26 players have earned the honor, with a dozen determined through voting (from fans, media members and players), another 12 selected by MLS All-Star head coach Nico Estévez of the host club, Austin FC, and two players selected by MLS commissioner Don Garber. This squad will face off against a Liga MX All-Star team at Q2 Stadium on Wednesday, July 23.

Lionel Messi headlines the “voted in” contingent, making his second straight appearance in the event. Inter Miami teammate Jordi Alba was also voted onto the squad.

Alba is joined in the backline by Vancouver Whitecaps center back Tristan Blackmon, Minnesota center back Michael Boxall — who scored the decisive goal that earned New Zealand a spot at the 2026 World Cup — and Orlando and United States international right back Alex Freeman. Boxall’s club teammate, Canada international Dayne St. Clair, was voted in at goalkeeper. St. Clair won All-Star Game MVP in 2022 when the event was held at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, Minn.

Voters picked a three-man midfield consisting of Vancouver and United States international Sebastian Berhalter, FC Cincinnati midfielder Evander and Real Salt Lake and USMNT playmaker Diego Luna. The three forward spots were claimed by Messi, Philadelphia striker Tai Baribo — who leads the Golden Boot race with 13 goals — and Los Angeles FC winger Denis Bouanga.

Below is the full 26-man roster, listed alphabetically by position group.

Coach’s Selection

Each year, the hosting team’s coach oversees the All-Star Game regardless of their club’s standing. Austin FC is 7th in the Western Conference, claiming the final outright playoff spot above the wild card places. Estévez selected two players from his squad: fan favorite goalkeeper Brad Stuver, and star striker Brandon Vazquez, who joined the club this winter.

The other ten spots were divvied up to provide balance and recognize players in the midst of great seasons, regardless of their international fame. Yohei Takaoka and Brian White join Blackmon and Berhalter in representing the Whitecaps, who sit top of the Western Conference. The defensive contingent is completed by Max Arfsten (Columbus Crew), Jakob Glesnes (Philadelphia), Andy Najar (Nashville SC) and Miles Robinson (Cincinnati). Estévez selected three midfielders, each of whom is midway through their first season in MLS: David Da Costa (Portland Timbers), Jeppe Tverskov (San Diego FC) and Philip Zinckernagel (Chicago Fire).

Estévez’s final three selections came along the forward line, bringing in Vazquez as well as Anders Dreyer (San Diego) and Diego Rossi (Columbus). With his annual pair of picks, MLS commissioner Garber chose two additional forwards: Charlotte and United States striker Patrick Agyemang, and San Diego and Mexico winger Hirving Lozano.

In total, 16 of the 26 players have made their first All-Star roster this season. Vancouver leads the way with four selections, while expansion upstart San Diego FC is next with three. Six of 26 All-Stars are 24 or younger, while seven are representing the United States in the Concacaf Gold Cup.

Is it fixable? As Texas’ offensive struggles continue, tough questions face Steve Sarkisian, Arch Manning

AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas won an SEC game it shouldn't have Saturday night in Lexington. Those aren't my words. Longhorn QB Arch Manning said as much Monday after the Wildcats more than doubled Texas' yardage (395-179) in an overtime loss. But, at least to All-American safety Michael Taaffe postgame, the vibes from the media weren't positive enough. "These questions seem a little bit negative, I'm not going to lie guys, to the offense," Taaffe said postgame sitting next to Manning. "I'll say this, it's freaking hard to win in the SEC … We freaking won. Let's put some smiles on our face. We won. The show goes on." You get it from one of Texas' captains. Emotions are high after a game, and he's protecting his friend. Thing is, this wasn't a one-off result. Texas is averaging just 16.8 points per […]

Upset alert in NFL Week 8? Why these favorites could fall, including Packers vs. Aaron Rodgers

Week 7 was as square as SpongeBob as favorites dominated the slate. In all, favorites covered 11 of the 15 games and went 13-2 straight up, so the dogs certainly weren't barking throughout the weekend. While that doesn't necessarily correlate with Week 8 becoming a comeback story for the dogs, there certainly should be some leveling out in that regard. Week 8 features a smaller collection of games, with six teams on the bye. However, the majority of matchups have spreads of 6.5 or fewer, indicating a number of close contests and the possibility of upsets. Where can those possible upsets be found? Let's highlight a handful of favorites who could be on upset alert this week. NFL odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook. Bet NFL at FanDuel and get $300 in bonus bets with a winning $5 wager.
