As the Kansas City Chiefs head into the 2025 season, their offense is poised for evolution, particularly in the wide receiver unit.
Long gone is veteran guard Joe Thuney, who struggled late last season, giving way to newcomers Jaylon Moore and rookie Josh Simmons on the offensive line.
However, attention is shifting most toward the receiving corps, a group that could represent the biggest yearoveryear upgrade.
While the Chiefs added rookie Jalen Royals in the fourth round, most of the production boost is expected from established players.
One such talent, second-year wideout Xavier Worthy, earned high praise from Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon, who labeled him a potential “superstar” in 2025.
Gagnon praised Worthy‘s elite explosiveness, noting that “the 22-year-old is one of the fastest players in the sport,” and projected his rise as Patrick Mahomes‘ primary target, especially with Travis Kelce‘s role tapering.
Gagnon added that he wouldn’t be surprised if Worthy mimics “2018 Tyreek Hill” this autumn.
The comparison to Hill isn’t unfounded. Worthy clocked a record-setting 4.21-second 40-yard dash at the 2024 combine, the fastest recorded time since the measurement began.
His rookie campaign echoed Hill‘s early years: Worthy logged 638 receiving yards with six touchdowns, nearly matching Hill’s 593 yards and six scores in his first year.
He also contributed as a rusher, piling up 104 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
That impact has carried into the postseason, where he tallied 243 yards and three TDs across the AFC Championship and Super Bowl, signaling his knack for big-game moments.
A path toward stardom
Despite these flashes of brilliance, Worthy still has wrinkles to iron out.
FantasyPros notes that his separation rates and route-win percentages ranked near the bottom among qualifying receivers last season.
Footballguys recently listed him among underrated wideouts to target in 2025, while FFToday highlighted his late-season momentum and suggested a more vertical passing focus could benefit him.
In recent interviews, Worthy hinted at expanding his role beyond receiver. When asked on FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams” whether he might return punts this year, he replied:
“Oh man, I don’t know. Stay tuned. … I think every time I touch the ball, I’m liable to score.”
He described studying Devin Hester‘s film to refine his returns, noting Hester‘s “understanding of the leverage” and “fullspeed seamhitting” skills he intends to adopt.
That suggests plenty of room for development, especially with an offseason of skill refinement under his belt.
Beyond the stat sheet, Kansas City spent part of free agency re-signing Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, indicating confidence in bolstering their receiving firepower.
Analysts, including SI, highlight Worthy and fellow young receiver Rashee Rice as a dynamic duo capable of igniting a potent offense.
TalkSport echoed that sentiment, describing the Chiefs as “provoked” and primed for a rebounding year, with a revitalized Worthy playing a central role.
