Die U19-Juniorinnen des Deutschen Handballbundes (DHB) haben bei der Europameisterschaft in Podgorica (Montenegro) das entscheidende Hauptrundenspiel gegen Schweden 35:26 (15:15) gewonnen und damit das Viertelfinale erreicht.

Auf der Tribüne fieberte beim megastarken Auftritt hoher Besuch mit. Frauen-Bundestrainer Markus Gaugisch (51) sah eine, vor allem im zweiten Durchgang, überragende Vorstellung des Teams von Coach Christopher Nordmeyer (57).
Gaugisch lobt das Team und seinen Trainer-Kollegen: „Die Mannschaft macht richtig Spaß. Es ist bravourös, was die Mädels hier leisten. Alle haben ihre Anteile, bringen ihren Input ins Spiel ein und Chris Nordmeyer hat taktisch tolle Lösungen parat. Ich bin davon überzeugt, dass sie auch im Viertelfinale alles auf der Platte lassen. Jetzt gilt es, weiter so hungrig zu bleiben. Das Viertelfinale ist erreicht, nicht mehr, aber auch nicht weniger. Das ist gut, aber wir wollen weiter gierig sein.“
[–>Nordmeyer hat den nächsten Grund, auf sein bislang im Turnier unbesiegtes Team mächtig stolz zu sein: „Wir haben ein weiteres Statement gesetzt. Schweden hat beim Scandinavian-Cup gegen Dänemark sowie Ungarn gewonnen und ging als Mitfavorit in die EM. Es ist richtig cool, dass wir diese starke Mannschaft aufgehalten haben.“
Nach ausgeglichener erster Hälfte legten Nordmeyers Spielerinnen eine mehr als dominante zweite Halbzeit (20:11!) auf die Platte. Der Trainer: „Wir haben durch unsere Deckungsarbeit das Kreisläuferspiel nicht mehr zur Geltung kommen lassen. Damit war Schwedens Plan verpufft.“
Im Viertelfinale trifft die DHB-Auswahl am Donnerstag (19.30 Uhr) auf Gastgeber Montenegro. Die weiteren Partien in der Runde der letzten Acht: Frankreich – Österreich, Kroatien – Spanien und Dänemark – Ungarn.
