De lenda do Jiu-jitsu a promessas meteóricas, brasileiros peso-pesado voltam com força ao UFC

Grandes nomes do MMA brasileiro tiveram o cinturão peso-pesado em suas cinturas para se consolidarem em popularidade no país — sejam os lendários Fabrício “Vai Cavalo” Werdum e Júnior “Cigano” dos Santos, campeões do UFC, ou o pioneiro Antônio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira, que se tornou o primeiro a vencer em duas organizações diferentes: além do UFC, no PRIDE FC. Uma divisão de peso tão renomada nos primórdios da modalidade no Brasil se tornou um deserto de títulos na maior organização do momento, desde a derrota de Werdum em 2016.

Mas novos ventos sopram na categoria e levam diversos atletas que defendem a bandeira verde e amarela a se colocarem como futuros concorrentes ao título até 120 kg. Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida é um desses nomes. Aos 35 anos, o faixa-preta renomado estreia neste sábadp no UFC Abu Dhabi, com grande expectativa dos fãs de luta, após uma extensa carreira vitoriosa, com 13 títulos mundiais que o consagraram entre os melhores lutadores de jiu-jitsu de todos os tempos. Sua luta será a primeira do evento, às 13h, contra o eslovaco Martin Buday.

— O meu adversário é muito experiente. Usa muito bem a grade do octógono, mas acabará sendo bom para mim também, pois assim conseguirei usar o meu jiu-jítsu com eficiência, já que ele vai acabar ficando perto, e isso será bom para mim — diz Buchecha, ao GLOBO.

Com seis lutas na organização asiática One Championship, sendo cinco vitórias — todas por finalização ou nocaute —, Buchecha ainda está desenvolvendo o seu jogo na modalidade e para isso pretende aumentar ainda mais a frequência de lutas para rapidamente alcançar os principais nomes da categoria.

— Eu pretendo fazer no mínimo três lutas no ano, mas se puder fazer mais, posso até chegar a quatro — disse. Mas ressaltou que só planejará próximos nomes após a estreia — Como todo atleta, quero disputar o cinturão, é um sonho, mas no momento só penso em minha estreia. Depois dela vou focar nos próximos objetivos — disse.

No caso do baiano Jailton “Malhadinho” Almeida, outro destaque na categoria, ele já é um dos mais cotados para uma disputa de cinturão, caso vença o próximo adversário, o russo Alexander Volkov, e chegue a 23 vitórias em 26 combates. A luta, que será no dia 25 de outubro, foi oficializada nesta quinta-feira.

— Dos melhores nomes da categoria, eu sou o único que ainda não disputou o cinturão, por isso estou treinando tanto para esta luta. Como o Volkov é um cara muito alto (2,01 m), estou afiando muito mais a minha trocação e finalizações. Qualquer mole que ele der ali, vou conseguir finalizar — disse. E completou, dizendo: — depois dessa vitória contra o Volkov não tem como o UFC não me oferecer uma luta pelo cinturão.

E, embora esteja focado no próximo rival, já tem na cabeça o planejamento para enfrentar o atual campeão Tom Aspinall.

— Eu já assisti as lutas dele. Do segundo para o terceiro round ele cansa. Ele nunca lutou cinco rounds, tem que ser testado. A estratégia é controlar os dois primeiros rounds, não deixar ele se movimentar e ver como ele vai se comportar nos rounds seguintes, já desgastado. Assim busco a finalização ou nocaute — diz Malhadinho.

Mas outro trunfo do brasileiro para buscar um cinturão também é a possibilidade de descer de categoria para lutar nos meio-pesados. Malhadinho era um lutador até 93 kg, mas passou a disputar nos pesados para diminuir o corte de peso, uma ação comum entre lutadores para chegar na hora da luta com vantagem de força. Ele diz que, “pagando bem”, estaria disposto a se arriscar novamente em outra divisão de peso.

Além dos dois, um nome que ascende meteoricamente entre os gigantes é o de Walter Walker, irmão do veterano Johnny Walker. O caçula de 27 anos perdeu na estreia, mas se recuperou rapidamente ao vencer as três lutas seguintes com a mesma finalização: chave de pé.

— A categoria hoje está rasa de talentos. Um exemplo foi a chegada do brasileiro Tallison Teixeira, que teve uma boa vitória na estreia e já foi alçado contra os principais nomes da categoria — diz o jornalista especialista em artes marciais, Marcelo Alonso. E continuou: — É uma demonstração de que a organização quer um novo ídolo nos pesados para substituir a saída do Jon Jones.

— Tallison perdeu a última por ainda ser novo, mas ele pode aprender com os erros — diz Alonso.

Embora veja uma inexperiência nos novos lutadores, Fabrício Werdum ressalta que os novos nomes brasileiros chegam com grandes projeções na organização.

— A “seleção brasileira” dos pesados está vindo com uma consciência muito boa. Embora falte um pouco de experiência, no geral, essa safra nova está vindo muito bem — diz o ex-lutador Werdum, que aproveita para aconselhar os novos nomes: — Se eu pudesse voltar atrás, focaria mais na dieta, na musculação, preparação física. Não é por ser peso-pesado que você pode entrar de qualquer jeito.
