Dallas Cowboys superstar Micah Parsons formally requested a trade on August 1, 2025, citing frustrations around stalled contract talks and perceived disrespect from team leadership. However, owner and GM Jerry Jones says the request doesn’t change anything. He’s not considering trading the defensive standout and insists the situation is simply negotiation in action.

Jones calls Parsons’ request “part of negotiations
Jerry Jones addressed reporters following training camp practice in Oxnard, California, stating plainly that Parsons’ trade request is not serious business. He linked it to Parsons’ lingering back tightness, something Jones regards as normal noise, not deal-breakers.
Jones reiterated that he and Parsons had an agreement in March, and insisted, “What y’all don’t know is what I offered him…and it’s a helluva lot more than you think I did”, adding that Parsons had since removed that offer from consideration.
Trade request sparks drama, but Dallas holds leverage
Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowler and the only player since sacks were officially tracked to register 12+ sacks in each of his first four seasons alongside Reggie White, made his trade demand public amid mounting frustration with the Cowboys. He posted a social media message stating he no longer wants to be part of “closed-door negotiations without my agent”, citing repeated “shots” from the organization.
Yet the team has so far shown no appetite for trading him, not least because he remains under contract and the Cowboys retain considerable leverage, including the ability to franchise-tag him twice. Financially, the team couls still use the franchise tag after 2025, even though that could mean paying among the top salaries in the league, especially if quarterbacks contiunue rising in value.
