Mason McTavish scored the only goal of the shootout and added three assists in regulation as the Anaheim Ducks edged the visiting San Jose Sharks 4-3 on Tuesday.

McTavish, who was the third shootout participant for the Ducks, skated in and showed great patience as he waited for Sharks goalie Alexandar Georgiev to make a move, then slid the puck between the goalie’s legs.

Trevor Zegras and Sam Colangelo each had a goal and an assist and Jackson LaCombe scored for Anaheim (33-33-8, 74 points), who wrapped up a 3-2-0 homestand by completing a three-game season sweep of the Sharks. Lukas Dostal made 28 saves.

Shakir Mukhamadullin, Alexander Wennberg and Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored goals and Georgiev stopped 34 shots for the Sharks. San Jose (20-44-10, 50 points) has lost three straight, getting outscored 17-5 in those games, not counting Anaheim’s extra “goal” for the shootout win.

Ducks forward Zegras opened the scoring just over two minutes into the first period off a faceoff in the Sharks’ end. McTavish won the draw back to Colangelo, whose shot was tipped in by Zegras.

The Sharks tied it 1-1 at 5:28 of the first as Mukhamadullin’s long shot from the point somehow slipped through the legs of Dostal, who misplayed the puck.

LaCombe scored at 8:13 of the first on a power play. His long wrister from the point beat a screened Georgiev to the blocker side.

Colangelo scored with 59 seconds left in the opening frame to make it 3-1. Georgiev made the first save, but he lost sight of the puck and Colangelo was able to poke it into an empty cage.

Mukhamadullin left the game with an injury early in the third period and did not return after being tackled by Ducks forward Frank Vatrano in front of the Sharks’ bench.

Vlasic scored his first goal of the season to pull the Sharks to within 3-2 at 4:08 of the third.

Wennberg took a pass out of the corner from teammate William Eklund and one-timed a shot past Dostal to tie the game 3-3 late in the third, setting the stage for overtime followed by the shootout.

4 Takeaways From the Steelers’ Win Over the Dolphins

The Steelers continue to control their destiny after taking care of business on primetime. Pittsburgh used a big third quarter and did enough in the final period to take down Miami 28-15 on Monday night at Acrisure Stadium, staying a game ahead of Baltimore (7-7) for first place in the AFC North. The Steelers (8-6) now have won back-to-back games for the first time since Weeks 5-6. With the loss, the Dolphins (6-8) have been eliminated from playoff contention, marking the second straight year that Miami won’t make the postseason. Here are my takeaways:1. Steelers broke game open in third quarterLeading the Dolphins 7-3 entering the second half, the Steelers set the tone in the third quarter with their ground game. Pittsburgh opened the quarter with five straight runs, including a 38-yarder by running back Kenneth Gainwell, to set up its second touchdown — […]

Tyler Skaggs civil trial vs. Angels heading to jury: Here’s what’s at stake

SANTA, ANA, Calif. — After 30 days, 44 witnesses and 312 exhibits in a trial that’s been contentious at nearly every turn, a jury on Monday heard closing arguments in the wrongful death civil suit brought against the Los Angeles Angeles by the family of pitcher Tyler Skaggs.Skaggs attorney Daniel Dutko made his case that the Angels were negligent in their handling and retention of ex-communications director Eric Kay. He argued that the Angels knew of Kay’s drug abuse, didn’t follow their own policies in addressing it, and were “gaslighting” jurors throughout the trial.AdvertisementAngels attorney Todd Theodora argued that Skaggs was a drug user and drug dealer, and that Skaggs, not Kay, was the driving force behind other Angels’ players purchasing pills from Kay and abusing opiates. He said, “Angels baseball knows right from wrong” and handled Kay’s drug addiction […]

Two years after the Pac-12 collapsed, its football legacy lives on

The Pac-12 may no longer exist in the way we all remember it, but its imprints are still all over college and professional football. On Saturday, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza was named the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner. He is now favored to be selected first overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.Mendoza has led the Hoosiers to a 13-0 campaign and a No. 1 ranking this season, but he began his college career with two seasons at California. The 22-year old has joined a long line of Pac-12 players from the 2023 season who have gone on to shine at other schools or in the NFL.Two years ago, the Pac-12 played its final season of football in its current form, ending a 108-year run. That campaign featured many sad conclusions and the appreciation of conference eccentricities like “Pac-12 After Dark,” but […]

Matt Rempe (mostly) happy with return from broken thumb: Rangers notes

NEW YORK — Matt Rempe had no clue something was wrong as he picked himself off the ice following his Oct. 23 fight with the San Jose Sharks’ Ryan Reaves. He got to the penalty box, and he and Reaves told each other “good fight.”Then Rempe looked down at his left thumb. The adrenaline had blocked out any pain, but immediately he could tell something wasn’t right. He left the penalty box and skated to the Rangers’ dressing room, then found out the thumb was broken in “many places.”Advertisement“It just got tangled up in his jersey (during the fight), and it obviously was kind of in the wrong spot and I was throwing a lot of left jabs,” Rempe said after the Rangers’ 4-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. “I just kept going bang, bang, bang, and I […]

Who can stop the Rams? Updated Super Bowl 2026 odds as the NFL playoff race starts to heat up

Week 15 in the NFL was certainly a consequential week. The Buffalo Bills made up ground in the AFC East by defeating the New England Patriots, while the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals were eliminated from playoff contention. It was also an unfortunate week for injuries, as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Green Bay Packers pass rusher Micah Parsons suffered torn ACLs.The playoff picture is becoming clearer. The Los Angeles Rams look to be the team to beat in the NFL, Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars may be hitting their stride at the right time and Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans breathed a huge sigh of relief when their NFC South rivals, the Carolina Panthers, were upset by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. There is still plenty of football left to be played, but which teams are the favorites to […]
