La bielorrusa Aryna Sabalenka, número 1 del mundo, sacó adelante un partido durísimo ante la británica Emma Raducanu y se enfrentará en octavos de final del WTA 1.000 de Cincinnati a la española Jessica Bouzas.
Sabalenka doblegó a Raducanu, número 39 del ránking, por 7-6(3), 4-6 y 7-6(5) después de tres horas y nueve minutos de vibrante y apasionante tenis bajo el sofocante calor de Cincinnati. La número 1 ha ganado 18 de los 19 tie-breaks que ha jugado este año, con un balance de 11-0 cuando se ha tratado del primer set.
Un ejemplo de la fabulosa batalla que protagonizaron ambas tenistas fue que Raducanu necesitó en el tercer set de 23 minutos para poder ganar un juego con su saque.
Sabalenka se medirá a continuación a Bouzas (n.42), que este lunes arrolló a la estadounidense Taylor Townsend (n.126) por 6-4 y 6-1 tras una hora y 21 minutos.
Este será el segundo enfrentamiento entre Sabalenka y Bouzas. El primero fue en el Abierto de Australia de este año, donde la bielorrusa se impuso por 6-3 y 7-5 en la segunda ronda.
De 22 años, Bouzas está firmando una sensacional gira de pista dura por Norteamérica con un tenis muy agresivo y atrevido y la semana pasada disputó en Montreal los primeros cuartos de un WTA 1.000 de su trayectoria.
Finalmente cayó en esa ronda ante la joven canadiense Victoria Mboko, que posteriormente conquistaría el título con solo 18 años.
En total, Bouzas ha ganado 10 de sus últimos 12 partidos (en Wimbledon llegó hasta los octavos de final).
