Barcelonas Sportdirektor Deco hat sich jetzt zu den geplatzten Verhandlungen um den Spanier geäußert – und klargestellt, warum ein Wechsel im Sommer nicht zustande kam.

Der Angreifer von Athletic Bilbao hatte seinen Berater gebeten, Kontakt zu den Katalanen aufzunehmen. Am Ende verlängerte er jedoch langfristig in Bilbao. Deco bestätigte im Gespräch mit „Mundo Deportivo“: „Wenn ein großartiger Spieler wie Nico uns bittet zu kommen, wenn der Agent uns aufsucht, dann reden wir – und so war es. Fußball ist so: Aus welchem Grund auch immer wollte der Spieler die vorgeschlagenen Bedingungen nicht.“

Der Brasilianer betonte, dass das Scheitern nicht an Barça fast schon traditionellen Registrierungsproblemen lag: „Wir haben die Bedingungen des Klubs festgelegt. Danach muss man das schriftlich fixieren, und wir haben gesagt, wir akzeptieren ihre Vorgaben nicht, weil uns kein Spieler Beschränkungen auferlegt. Am Ende hat es nicht geklappt. Wir haben eine Frist gesetzt, sie haben nicht reagiert, also ging jeder seiner Wege.“

Doch ganz ohne Störgefühle lief es nicht ab, wie Deco dann zugibt: „Wenn man verhandelt, sagt man von Anfang an, was man will, und ändert es nicht später. Mehr will ich dazu auch nicht sagen. Darüber wurde schon viel zu viel Unsinn erzählt, auch in Bilbao.“
Der Ex-Profi stellte zudem klar: „Wir haben Nico nicht angesprochen, es war sein Agent, der auf uns zukam. Und weil die Verhandlungen um Luis Díaz und Marcus Rashford schon kompliziert waren, mussten wir Lösungen finden. Mit Nico hat es nicht geklappt, und das war’s – keine große Sache.“
