Im ersten Halbfinale traf der THW Kiel in der Kölner Lanxess-Arena auf die Rhein-Neckar Löwen. Viele Experten erwarteten im Vorfeld einen Krimi mit knappem Ausgang. Sie lagen beim 32:31 (28:28/17:14) der Kieler nach Verlängerung völlig richtig.
Kiel-Kapitän Domagoj Duvnjak, der Spieler des Spiels wurde, bei Dyn: „Ein geiles Spiel, das jeder Zuschauer genießen konnte. Ich weiß ganz ehrlich nicht, wie wir das Spiel gewonnen haben.“

Handball-Final4: THW Kiel gewinnt Handball-Drama
Nach sechs Minuten sind beim 2:2-Zwischenstand gerade mal vier Tore gefallen. Die beiden Nationaltorhüter Andy Wolff (Kiel) und David Späth kommen gut ins Spiel und liefern Paraden ab.
Die erste Schwächephase leisten sich die Kieler. Sie stecken von der 13. bis zur 20. Minute im Produktions-Stau und erzielen kein Tor. Nutzen die Mannheimer um National-Spielmacher Juri Knorr eiskalt aus und legen zum 12:9 (22.) vor, daraus entwickelt sich ein kleiner Zwischen-Rausch.
Denn die eigene Abschluss-Schwäche und Späths Paraden ziehen Kiel erst mal den Stecker. Nach 25 Minuten führen die Löwen 15:10 und die Kieler Abwehr teilweise vor. Lässt sich der deutsche Rekordmeister das so gefallen?
[–>Bitter für Knorrs Mannheimer: Top-Linkshänder Ivan Martinovic verletzt sich nach seinem Treffer zum 17:12 (29.) am linken Knie. Der Kroate wird von einem Betreuer gestützt in die Kabine gebracht, er kehrt nach dem Seitenwechsel nicht wieder auf die Platte zurück.
Ein extrem schwerer Verlust für die Löwen, der sich nach der Pause schnell bemerkbar macht. Kiel kommt gierig aus der Kabine, ist beim 16:17 (33.) wieder dran. Kippt die Kiste doch noch Richtung Kiel?
Erst mal nicht, weil der Torstau wieder zurückkehrt und Späth im Löwen-Tor immer magnetischer wird. Der THW leistet sich diesmal knapp vier Minuten ohne Treffer, Mannheim dagegen bucht auch ohne Martinovic Tore. Eine Vorentscheidung ist das aber auch nicht, Kiel ist beim 22:22 (46.) wieder im Spiel.
In der 57. Minute sieht Mannheims Olle Forsell Schefvert Rot nach Videobeweis, die nächste Schwächung für die Löwen. Völlig verrückt wird die letzte Minute. Knorr scheitert mit einem Siebenmeter an Wolff, Kiel hat noch 24 Sekunden Zeit für einen letzten Angriff und vergibt ihn – Verlängerung!
In der versagen den Mannheimern die Nerven, Knorr verwirft den nächsten Strafwurf, Kiel schnappt sich das Finale. Gegner am Sonntag (15.35 Uhr, live bei Dyn/Anzeige) ist der Sieger der Partie MT Melsungen gegen HBW Balingen-Weilstetten.
