Jeho nejúspěšnější sezóna proběhla v letech 1943-44, kdy v nejvyšší lize vstřelil 57 gólů. Pokud bychom k celkovému skóre připojili i reprezentační a zahraniční zápasy, Josef „Pepi“ Bican nastřílel neuvěřitelných 821 gólů, zmíněný zdroj RSSSF jich uvádí dokonce 950.
