A historic piece of memorabilia tied to the infamous O.J. Simpson case has sold for an impressive sum. O.J. Simpson’s personal Bible, which was inscribed by Robert Kardashian Sr., has been sold at auction for $65,800-$80,276 with the buyer’s premium.
The auction, hosted by Goldin Auctions, closed on March 29, with a total of 49 bids, 14 of which came in during the final day.
Kim Kardashian, the daughter of the late Robert Kardashian, had previously attempted to purchase the Bible for $15,000, but her offer was turned down. The item had already been legally contracted to be sold at auction, which led to its much higher final bid.
The Bible’s significance and its inscription
The Bible, part of Goldin’s “O.J. Simpson Collection,” included items like clothing, trophies, and a golf club set personally owned by Simpson. The Bible itself was signed by Robert Kardashian on June 18, 1994-the day after Simpson’s arrest in connection with the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. In the inscription, Robert Kardashian wrote:
“This book will help. God loves and he will speak to you with his words. Read this book everyday. God has a definite plan for your life. You are his child and he will use you again. I love you and God loves you.”
Robert Kardashian had served as Simpson’s defense attorney during the high-profile trial, which resulted in Simpson’s acquittal. However, Simpson was later found guilty in a civil trial in 1997.
Kim Kardashian made headlines when she offered $15,000 to purchase the Bible, which held sentimental value as a gift from her father. However, the estate’s executor, Malcolm LaVergne, made it clear that selling the Bible for such a low price wasn’t financially viable.
LaVergne also noted that if Kim had offered a higher sum, such as $150,000, the deal might have been discussed outside of the auction. But with the Bible already under contract for auction, Kim’s offer was not enough to secure the item.
