La Comisión Europea ha dado las cifras de víctimas mortales en las carreteras de nuestro continente relativas a 2024. Datos que siguen teniendo el carácter de provisional, si bien su variación será mínima y podemos dar por casi definitiva la cifra de 19.800 personas fallecidas por accidente en la Unión Europea. Es decir, que el año pasado el descenso de muertes en carretera fue del 3%, con lo que fallecieron unas 600 personas menos que en 2023. La cuestión es: ¿España es de los países en los que se producen menos muertes por la ‘lacra’ de los accidentes, o de los que más?
35 fallecidos por millón
En 2024 fallecieron en España 1.154 personas por accidente de circulación. Tomando como referencia el número de víctimas mortales por millón de habitantes, en nuestro país se produjeron 35 fallecidos por millón de habitantes, cuando la media en la Unión Europea fue de 44. Es decir, estaríamos por detrás de Suecia (20), Dinamarca (24), Holanda (31) y Alemania (33), pero por delante de países con ‘fama de seguros’ como Bélgica (37), Austria (38), Francia (48) e Italia (51).
Pero hay en opinión de Pere Navarro una dificultad añadida “que no tiene ningún otro país de nuestro entorno, como es un parque de 6 millones de motocicletas y 90 millones de turistas que se mueven por nuestras carreteras”. Así, el director gral. de Tráfico concluye que “estos datos de siniestralidad nos animan a seguir trabajando para alcanzar a los países referentes en seguridad vial, pero también demuestran que el trabajo que entre todos estamos haciendo va dando sus resultados“.
País asesor
La mejora de la seguridad vial en España (en números totales, pero también en comparación con otros países de nuestro entorno) ha llevado a la Comisión Europea a elegirnos para asesorar en diferentes materias a otros países. Así, este año han venido de Grecia a los servicios centrales de la DGT para conocer cómo gestionamos la seguridad vial de los motoristas. Pero el año pasado llegaron de Rumanía, para conocer cómo avanzamos en infraestructuras; y de Bulgaria, para informarse de la formación que ofrecemos para sacarse el carné de conducir. De hecho, estos años también hemos recibido enviados para ahondar en nuestra seguridad vial de países americanos, como Chile, o africanos, como Mauritania.
En España, de hecho, se han dado pasos pioneros en materia de seguridad que después se han adoptado en la unión Europea. Por ejemplo, una Directiva Europea recoge que desde 2030 sea válido en todos los países de la Unión el permiso de conducir digital, cuando desde marzo de 2020 ya existe en España este permiso por medio de la aplicación MiDGT y son más de 7 millones de conductores los que ya no llevan el carné físico por tenerlo en el teléfono móvil.
