In the Sanders household, wearing someone else’s shoes can quickly become a headline-especially if those shoes belong to Deion Sanders himself.
During a recent episode of the Well Off Media YouTube channel, Deion Sanders Jr., the eldest son of Coach Prime, found himself in the middle of a light-hearted family controversy.
The former Jackson State player was seen sporting a pair of sneakers that clearly weren’t his-his dad’s, in fact-and he knew exactly what was coming.
“I didn’t ask him to wear these. But, at the same time, everybody else steal shoes and he don’t get mad at them,” Sanders Jr. explained. “You’re not gonna not get mad at Travis and Shedeur and then get mad at me. That don’t make sense. If he do, that’s some he sht.”
While the moment was clearly meant to be playful, it sparked a broader discussion about how the family navigates the balance between business, family, and Coach Prime’s famously high standards.
Camaraderie, conflict, and a coach’s expectations
When the two finally crossed paths, Coach Prime delivered the kind of lecture only a father could-equal parts critique and comedy. Not only did he scold his son for the sneaker theft, but he called him out for neglecting more important responsibilities.
“Dog, you gotta stop. You gotta stop though. Boy you gotta stop,” Sanders told his son. “Why did you go to the school and get those but you ain’t put no post up? You better post something!”
As Shedeur Sanders looked on in disbelief-joking, “How can you steal something from yo daddy?”-Coach Prime ended the exchange with a smile, walking away knowing he made his point without having to yell.
Despite being teased, Sanders Jr. kept his cool. “He just made $54 million, so Imma be nice to him,” he joked, referencing Deion Sanders’ massive contract extension with Colorado that will pay him up to $12 million annually by 2029.
The family banter comes at a transitional time for Coach Prime. With Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter headed to the NFL, this upcoming season will be his first without either son on the field.
While Deion Jr. doesn’t play, he’s a key figure behind the scenes, building the program’s brand through Well Off Media, which documents the team’s journey and drives its public image.
Hunter, meanwhile, has become something of a serial sneaker swiper. Having previously taken a pair of Deion’s shoes, he also admitted to nabbing a pair from NBA star Ja Morant. Coach Prime, however, has never reacted harshly to Hunter’s playful antics.
For Deion Jr., the takeaway was simple: don’t expect dad to hold back-especially when there’s social media content at stake.
As Coach Prime gears up for a new season without his usual on-field family duo, he’ll rely heavily on a staff of former NFL stars to continue building the Buffaloes into a legitimate contender. And maybe-just maybe-he’ll start locking his closet.
