Elanga tumba al United y lanza al Nottigham Forest a la Champions

Tercero, a cuatro del Arsenal, incrustado en la Champions, en semis de Copa. El Nottingham Forest sigue soñando a lo grande con partidos como el de esta noche, ni el mejor ni el más bonito, pero capaz de superar 1-0 a un equipo mejor como el United.

La primera parte arrancó como terminó, con el United dominando la posesión, el fútbol y las ocasiones. Especialmente Bruno Fernandes, que tuvo el primer gol en el minuto con 4 derechazo abajo que sacó Sels.

La cosa es que en la siguiente jugada, con córner para los vistantes, el rechace lo atrapó Elanga, casi en el borde del área, salió como una exhalación hacia la meta de Onana, nadie le pudo atrapar, ni Garnacho tirándose en plancha y en el borde del área cruzó con fuerza a la red de u ex equipo, su sexto gol en la Premier. El 1-0 en el minuto 4

Y eso es todo lo que hizo, o tiró el Forest, en la primera parte, al que los tres puntos le sabían ya a Champions y no quiso saber nada de fútbol, solo cortar arriba o atrás, y salir como centellas con Elanga y Awoniyi. Hasta Sels, el portero, perdía medio minuto en cada saque de portería.

Del otro lado, el vendaval de Garnacho y Dalot, empujados por Casemiro y Bruno. Si no clavó el empate el portugués de un estupendo cabezazo fue por centímetros: lo repelió el larguero en el 28′. Poco les importaba eso a los 30.000 del City Ground, que parecían 90.000. Después de estar entre 1999 y 2022 fuera de la Premier, verse en Champions y ahora en semis de la FA CUP también por primera vez desde 1991, es como volar en primera clase. Que no hable nadie cómo se logra.

En la segunda parte, Amorim metió a Hojlund para aumentar el ritmo pero otra vez la primera fue para Yates que remató a dos metros de cabeza y sacó Onana con su cara A, la del felino capaz de repeler lo imposible.

Una tarjeta a Casemiro más tarde arreó de nuevo el Forest, que salió 10 minutos como si le fuera la vida, presionando y centrando a la olla en el mejor estilo brithish con un español, Álex Moreno, de estilete, curiosamente. No llegó el 2-0.

Se desperezó el United con el oxígeno de Eriksen y a los 20 minutos tuvo una doble ocasión Garnacho para empatar, pero la solidaridad de los ‘reds’ de Nottingham es monumental: Yates, todocampista, llegó desde arriba al corte para evitar esa contra. Como Neco Williams se desplegó después en defensa siendo extremo y volvió a evitar el 1-1 con el argentino. Con esa entrega es complicado meterle mano a un equipo, aun jugando mejor.

La más clara tuvo que llegar en el 80′ en el único error de la defensa local, mal despeje que le quedó suelto a Mount en la corona del área, y la envió lamiendo el palo izquierdo. Amparados en Melenkovic, el defensa con el que pelea Huijsen para ganar el premio al mejor fichaje de la Premier, el Forest resistió aplaudiendo cada saque de banda el arreón final del United, poco inspirado, colgando balones a Maguire, que por poco no empata en el 92 y por menos aún en el 96, raspando un balón que sacó Murillo bajo la línea. Cada partido como si fuera una final. Y van 17 victorias: como suena en la megafonía “here we goooo, rock and roll over the world”.
