Kai Trump, granddaughter of 47th US President Donald Trump, has stepped into the March Madness conversation with bold predictions for the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments.
While she’s best known for her golf achievements, the 17-year-old took to Instagram to weigh in on college basketball – and her choices are already stirring discussion among fans.
Trump threw her support behind Duke University‘s men’s team and the University of Connecticut‘s women’s squad, two programs steeped in championship pedigree.
“I have my predictions on who’s going to win March Madness for women’s and men,” she said. “So for men’s, I think Duke’s gonna win. Cooper [Flagg] is an amazing player, and he’s honestly, he’s been killing it in March Madness, but also all the games before that.”
She added, “I’ve always been a huge Duke basketball fan, so I’m like really hoping they can win.”
Currently, Duke is surging in the NCAA men’s tournament, having punched its ticket to the Final Four with a win over Alabama. Up next is a semifinal showdown against Houston, one of the top defensive teams in the country.
Should they advance, a national title matchup against either Auburn or Florida could be on the horizon.
Trump praises UConn’s consistency in women’s tournament
Turning to the women’s side of the bracket, Trump named UConn as her pick to cut down the nets.
“For women’s, I think UConn is going to win, because they have killed all their games leading up to March Madness,” she said. “And they just keep on dominating, and they’re always winning by so many points. So I hope they win. And they have all great players and we’ll see what happens.”
The Huskies, led by coach Geno Auriemma, remain one of the sport’s most decorated programs. With a potential Final Four appearance looming, they will first need to get past USC, followed possibly by UCLA.
On the other side of the bracket, South Carolina continues its undefeated run and could pose a significant challenge in the championship.
Kai’s comments come as she garners attention beyond sports fandom. In addition to her predictions, she’s been making headlines in the golf world with strong junior tournament performances, while her family has drawn added media interest due to her mother Kimberly Guilfoyle‘s relationship with Tiger Woods.
