Expectations for the Texas Longhorns’ 2025 season are sky-high, especially because the team’s leader-particularly on offense-will be the highly publicized Arch Manning, nephew of NFL legends Eli and Peyton Manning.

Arch stood out in high school as a five-star prospect, and all eyes are on what he will accomplish in the upcoming season. The excitement around Manning’s talent is so great that some believe he could be the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Colt McCoy and Steve Sarkisian’s opinion
Longhorns’ legendary quarterback Colt McCoy and Head Coach Steve Sarkisian sat down for an episode of Clean Pocket on YouTube, where the main topic was “Manning’s path to becoming the starting quarterback.”
Last year, Arch Manning wasn’t the starter since Quinn Ewers decided to return for 2024. However, Manning had some opportunities to play and showcased glimpses of the immense talent that has fans excited.
“Every time you’re a backup and have to step into a game and truly play-not just in the fourth quarter when you’re up by 30 points, where you just hand the ball off and throw a couple of short passes-he had to actually play, which was good,” Sarkisian said. “Then, he had to prepare for two weeks as a starter. One of those weeks was for our SEC debut against Mississippi State. It wasn’t just any game. ‘Man, this one really counted.'”
“I think we saw some really impressive things. I think we saw an athleticism that surprised many people, his ability to throw deep passes, and just how crucial that deep ball is in our system. Taking advantage of those one-on-one opportunities was huge,” Sarkisian added.
On the other hand, it’s obvious that Arch’s last name could create additional pressure, given the weight of being related to Peyton and Eli. However, Colt McCoy pointed out that “Manning is much more than just his last name, as he chose a school that none of his family members attended.”
Meanwhile, Sarkisian jokingly noted that Arch likely inherited his athleticism from his grandfather, Archie Manning, rather than from his uncles Peyton and Eli.

Arch played in 10 games last season, starting in two of them. He completed 61 of 90 passes, threw for nine touchdowns, and was intercepted twice. Now, all eyes will be on Arch Manning throughout the year, especially on how the Longhorns develop in 2025.
