Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have the NFL world hooked, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid‘s been holding a little retirement secret about the star tight end that’s just come to light. After Kansas City’s crushing 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on February 9, Kelce’s future hung in the balance. 12 seasons, three rings, and a rollercoaster year had fans wondering if he’d hang up his cleats.
Reid, the only coach Kelce’s ever known in the pros, spilled the beans on The Bettor Angle podcast on March 8, dishing out the advice he gave his guy. “I always tell the guys to ‘Get out of here,'” Reid said, pushing Kelce to escape the post-game haze and mull things over.

Kelce didn’t rush it. Reid kept it hush until the tight end made his call. “We had a great visit before he left,” Reid shared, recalling their chat right after the Super Bowl sting. That 35-year-old All-Pro took the hint, stepping back to wrestle with the “all-time low” of the loss, as he later told brother Jason on New Heights on March 5.
“It was probably the biggest factor,” Kelce admitted, but his love for football-and maybe a nudge from Swift-pulled him back for a 13th season, confirmed February 27. Social media fans flipped: “Trav’s back, thank Andy!” one posted, while others speculated Swift’s cheerleading kept him in the game.

Reid’s no stranger to Kelce’s heart, coaching him to 12,000 career yards and a Chiefs record 77 TDs. “He’s a great teammate and a great human being,” Reid gushed on the pod, hyping Kelce’s off-field vibe as much as his 39-yard Super Bowl showing (four catches, quiet first half).
Swift’s role? She’s been a sideline staple: 9-3 Chiefs record when she’s there-and Reid’s cool with it. “She loves the game, and obviously loves Kelce,” he said pre-Super Bowl on SiriusXM, a nod to her Eras Tour dashes to catch his plays. X buzzed: “Andy’s the Swift-Kelce whisperer!” one fan teased.
The secret wasn’t some grand plot,just Reid’s gut telling Kelce to chill and choose wisely. “Get out and get your mind where it’s not one day after the Super Bowl,” Reid advised, and it worked. Kelce’s back, training like a beast for 2025. Reid’s got the inside track on Kelce and Swift’s vibe. “He’s one of those guys you’d love on your staff,” he mused.
