The family drama in the Bennett family is showing no signs of slowing down after Tony Bennett’s two daughters filed a new lawsuit against their brother.
Antonia and Johanna Bennett allege that D’Andrea “Danny” Bennett, who served as Tony’s manager and heads their family trust, illegally enriched himself at their expense against their father’s wishes before and after his death in 2023.
The two women filed the lawsuit in New York on Monday.
“Since Tony’s death, Johanna and Antonia have discovered that Danny exercised complete and unchecked control over Tony and his financial affairs prior to and following his death through multiple fiduciary and other roles of authority that Danny has abused, and continues to abuse, for his own significant financial gain,” the suit alleges.
The lawsuit claims Danny took advantage of his father’s diminished capacity in the final stages of his life due to Alzheimer’s disease. It claims he did so by making deals that made himself and his company millions, including selling it shortly before Tony’s death to brand development firm Iconoclast.
This isn’t the first time the two have sued their brother, as in June they alleged that Danny mishandled their father’s assets. This new lawsuit is more specific in terms of allegations.
Bennett family drama drags on
Danny was Tony’s personal and professional manager with power of attorney. he was also manager of his company Benedetto Arts, and is the trustee of the family trust.
The new suite claims he benefitted from “self-interested and conflicted transactions, excessive and unearned commissions” “substantial loans and gifts to himself and his children” that have diminished assets that Tony will says should be split amongst hi four children equally.
Another brother, Daegal “Dae” Bennett and Tony’s widow, Susan Bennett, have also been named as defendants.
Tony Bennett died at the age of 96 in 2023. No specific cause led to his death, though he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 206.
He released more than 70 albums during his career, winning 19 Grammy Awards and a Grammy lifetime achievement award.
