El Burgos, Julián Calero y el Levante guardan una serie de parámetros. La de clubes acuciados por los números rojos y la necesidad de dar un paso más con un ascenso que solvente los graves problemas económicos que arrastran. El técnico madrileño parece tener la fórmula. Esa en la que sabe nadar entre aguas revueltas para centrarse en lo deportivo y que no merme a un colectivo de jóvenes en los que recae, directa o indirectamente, esa presión de ayudar en lo económico… con objetivos deportivos. O sea, con ascensos que sanen las arcas. Esa fórmula que le salió en Burgos lleva trazas de ir asentándose también en el club valenciano.
Levante y Burgos han tenido en común la suerte de un tipo que ha sabido manejar muchas cabezas y tenerlas centradas en lo que tocaba. En el balón. En objetivos. En puntos. Aunque hay que salvar las distancias en leves aspectos de lo que han vivido ambas entidades a nivel económico.
El grave caso del Burgos
Julián Calero llegó en verano de 2020 al banquillo burgalés. Pero en los tres años que estuvo al frente del equipo se queda con el día del ascenso en Almendralejo. Clave en la vida institucional de este club. Y esa fecha es fundamental en la vida de la entidad castellano y leonesa.
Calero y su mano ‘salvadora’.
Pero lo más llamativo es en qué condiciones se dio aquel ascenso: en plena crisis, sin cobrar y con un equipo a la deriva. Y aquella reunión que mantuvieron a finales de enero de 2021 en la que cuerpo técnico y plantilla acordaron tirar adelante como fuera. Un momento fundamental para que, a día de hoy, el equipo esté disfrutando del fútbol profesional por tercer año consecutivo. Calero supo tener motivada a una plantilla que obró el milagro deportivo… y económico.
En el Levante, incertidumbre por bandera
El Levante vive una situación institucional inquieta por mucho que se haya tratado de minimizar el asunto. Hay un estrangulamiento financiero del que nadie escapa… La deuda acumulada estos años de bonanza se vio abocada a un inmenso agujero financiero. El descenso, en el peor momento. La economía de guerra se instaló desde el verano de 2022. Por un segundo (aquel penalti del ascenso en el minuto 129 que le dio la gloria al Alavés y arruinó al Levante). De estar en Primera a quedarse en Segunda. Por un playoff. Fue la gota que colmó el vaso. Comenzaron las restricciones económicas. Cada vez menos jugadores de nivel -suplido con una buena gestión de fichajes a coste cero que le han dado otro salto al equipo más los canteranos que han respondido-, el director deportivo, Felipe Miñambres, se va al no llegar a un acuerdo económico para renovar -cuando pensaba ya en la ‘jubilación’ tras completar su larga etapa en el club granota- y el reajuste de plantilla (no deportiva) en la empresa. Decenas de trabajadores despedidos a lo largo de un tiempo por reestructuraciones.
Pero en lo deportivo, no hay nada que decir. ‘Pongan un Calero en sus vidas…’, debería rezar el dicho. Mantiene al Levante como candidato claro al ascenso. Ha tocado la primera plaza en varias ocasiones. Y es uno de los equipos más fiables. Por tanto, se vuelve a cumplir la máxima. Aquella que presenta un club acuciado por los números y cuya única tabla de salvación es el ascenso, y la presencia de un entrenador como Julián Calero resulta una bendición.
El método Calero, aunque lluevan las crisis económicas.
Su espíritu lo ha impregnado. Con esa experiencia que acumula. La vivida en Burgos, para subsistir ante tanto terremoto externo a lo deportivo. Lo ha encauzado y ha convencido a todos sus jugadores para mantenerlos aislados de todo lo ajeno al balón. Jugada de maestro.
El Cartagena 23-24, desahuciado y salvado con holgura
No es la misma situación, pero si un momento crítico. Calero abandonó el Burgos en 2023. Se quedó sin banquillo. Tocaba esperar, pero se enroló en un reto sumamente complejo. El de un Cartagena que la campaña pasada iba directo a Primera RFEF. Julián decidió probar algo distinto. E hizo magia. Logró apartar a sus jugadores de todo lo que les envolvía en el entorno y lo salvo con holgura varías jornadas antes. La remontada fue de las históricas. Momento en que el Levante le había echado el ojo para tratar de salvar esa combinación de crisis financiera-necesidad deportiva.
