
Érase una vez un país al que le dieron un Mundial de Fútbol. Era algo que no pasaba desde hacía más de 40 años. Entonces, era una nación con una democracia en pañales y que cada semana contaba muertos porque una banda de asesinos pensaba que cuantos más cadáveres pusiera sobre la mesa, antes llegaría la negociación. A pesar de ello, y aunque le costó la salud a quien pusieron al frente de la organización -digamos que se llamaba Raimundo y se apellidaba Saporta-,rta-, el mundo se encontró con una excelente Copa del Mundo.
Quizá por ello, la idea de que el Mundial regresara a ese país, cuyo fútbol se admiraba en cualquier lugar, se consideró excelente. Sin embargo, en vez de volcarse para dar la razón a quienes confiaron en él, ese país se empeñó en acumular chapuzas.
Quien decide dónde se juegan los Mundiales tuvo que intervenir para destituir al presidente de la Federación de ese país. Un escándalo que daba la vuelta al mundo no tenía respuesta desde dentro. Por cierto, a ese presidente le debe ese país la elección del Mundial, por mucho que los “istas” (en masculino y femenino) que siguen dentro se echen las manos a la cabeza cada vez que se le nombra. Digamos que ese fantasma que se pasea por esa Federación se llamaba Rubiales.
En ese fantástico país, Gobierno y Federación -en la que, de repente, mandaba más alguien de fuera que de dentro- cruzaron espadas en vez de unirse.
Un día, un periódico descubrió que en ese país la elección de las ciudades para ser sede tenía el rastro de unas grabaciones que, de no ser por la gravedad de lo que allí se oía, serían perfectas para los Monty Python y su Frente Popular de Judea.
En ese país no pasaba nada. Todo valía. Todo se veía como el cuento de Pedro y el lobo. El aullido siempre era demasiado lejano. Total, ¿quién se iba a atrever a cambiar un Mundial? Total, el lobo nunca llega.
