Nikola Jokic perdió el duelo de estrellas ante Stephen Curry. Los dos jugadores llegaban en una racha sensacional de juego y estadísticas. El base de los Warriors ganó el duelo personal y colectivo. Anotó 36 puntos con 7/15 en triples para que su equipo venciera por 118-104. El pívot serbio no se quedó atrás y acabó rozando el triple-doble: 33 puntos, 12 rebotes y nueve asistencias.

Después del partido, Jokic fue agasajado por Steve Kerr, que le calificó como “el mejor pívot que he visto en mi vida”. El entrenador de los Warriors reconocía que “es injusto comparar épocas, pero jugué un año con Kareem Abdul-Jabbar -así de mayor soy- y obviamente le observé. Y él no podía hacer todo esto“.

Sin duda, Jokic es uno de los pívots más completos de la historia. Actualmente, tiene su mejor promedio en puntos (29,7), porcentaje de triples (41,6%), asistencias (10,2) y recuperaciones (1,8) y el segundo mejor en rebotes (12,8). En todas esas estadísticas está en el Top 3 de la NBA salvo en la de acierto desde el arco.

Kerr considera que el juego de Jokic “va mucho más allá del nivel de habilidad. Es la competitividad y la inteligencia. Es absolutamente uno de los jugadores más inteligentes de todos los tiempos. Lo puedes ver de muchas maneras diferentes”.

Luchando por su cuarto MVP

Por esos bestiales dígitos, el pívot de los Nuggets está compitiendo por hacerse con su cuarto MVP de la temporada, aunque parece por detrás en la encarnizada lucha que mantiene con Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. De hacerse con el galardón, Jokic igualaría los cuatro que consiguieron LeBron James y Wilt Chamberlain y sólo tendría por delante en el palmarés al mencionado Jabbar, con seis, y a Bill Russell y Michael Jordan, con cinco.

Los elogios de Kerr al jugador serbio se unen a los de media NBA, que sigue alucinando con sus prestaciones. El último en descubrirse ante él había sido Anthony Edwards. Después de hacer 61 puntos, 10 rebotes y 10 asistencias en un partido ante los Timberwolves, el escolta dijo: “Jokic podría ser el mejor jugador de baloncesto que he visto nunca”.
