A case of mistaken identity created unexpected drama at Sporting Kansas City‘s recent match, as fans believed Taylor Swift was in attendance.
Swift, often seen in Kansas City due to her high-profile romance with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has become a familiar figure in the area. So, when a woman who looked remarkably like the global pop icon appeared in one of the suites, the crowd went wild.
Supporters waved, snapped photos, and even approached the suite hoping for a moment with the ‘Eras Tour’ superstar.
One fan posed for a selfie, unaware that they weren’t meeting the Grammy-winning singer, but instead Kansas City’s official Taylor Swift tribute artist, Kelley Thrasher, known online as “Kelley’s Version.”
A birthday party gone viral
According to Kelley and her friends, the mix-up was entirely unplanned. “We were just there to celebrate our girl @amberleigh.masters birthday,” a friend posted to Instagram.
“But bring Taylor Swift‘s lookalike to an SKC game and suddenly you need security escorts and end up in the stadium’s secret speakeasy with the players after the game.”
The frenzy reportedly got so intense that stadium staff stepped in to manage the growing crowd. Kelley’s resemblance to Swift – from her hairstyle and wardrobe down to her facial features – was convincing enough to cause stadium-wide confusion.
“My kids think I’m the coolest mom ever because I’m ‘friends with Taylor Swift’ – and honestly, I’m not correcting them,” the friend added.
Kelley has been booked for a variety of events, from birthday parties to sports appearances.
Just one day after her viral moment at the soccer match, she appeared in a suite at a Bloomington Bison hockey game and posted: “2 suites in 24 hours. VIP Love Story – but make it sports. Hockey? Soccer? It’s me, hi, I’m the fan, it’s me.”
Earlier this year, she also made an appearance at Arrowhead Stadium, where she posed with fans and even linked up with a faux Andy Reid.
The real Swift and Kelce are enjoying some well-earned downtime
While her doppelgänger entertained crowds back home, the actual Taylor Swift has been keeping a low profile following the end of her record-breaking Eras Tour, which wrapped up in late 2024.
In February, she was present for Super Bowl LVIII in New Orleans, where the Chiefs fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, 40-22. Sources told Page Six that Swift and Kelce are using the NFL offseason and her touring break to spend quality time together.
“Travis will be heading to training camp later this summer and Taylor will eventually need to head back to work, so this is a sliver of time they have all to themselves,” the insider said.
“A lot of their time is spent at home just relaxing. Despite their fame, they’re really just like any other couple. They like to cuddle on the couch and watch movies, play board games, spend time with family, cook dinner together and just hang out.”
Kelce, who briefly considered retirement after the Super Bowl loss, confirmed he will return for a 13th NFL season. In the meantime, it seems Kansas City will have to keep an eye out – you never know when the next “Taylor sighting” might just be someone else entirely.

Kansas City Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce has said he will wait until the end of the season to make a decision on retirement.The 36-year-old also said he wants to make the decision early enough to give his team ample time to prepare for the future.
