Pete Alonso celebrates another multi-million dollar deal from which he will receive nothing but sees as key to the future

Major League Baseball is in the early games of the 2025 season and the atmosphere is already building for the upcoming offseason with an anticipated move that shook up the next winter market, despite what might be expected for Pete Alonso, after the long 2024 saga

The contract extension of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to a 14-year, $500 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays completely changed the landscape, as he was set to be the most sought-after free agent, with a storyline that could compete with the last two starring Japan’s Shohei Ohtani with the Los Angeles Dodgers and, a year later, the DominicanJuan Soto with the New York Mets as winners.

By leaving the next winter market early, perhaps the most sought-after free agent will be Kyle Tucker, who was traded from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs, but his contract ends at the end of the season. However, there are other names that could join after taking advantage of the clauses in their contracts, MLB.com mentions as options Alex Bregman, Cody Bellinger and Pete Alonso.

Pete Alonso can look for a better contract

Motivated by the $500 million of Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Pete Alonso could opt out of the two-year, $54 million deal he signed with the Mets, of which $24 million will be for 2026.

Without Guerrero Jr. in the competition, Alonso would be the best first baseman available and, after the nightmare of last winter’s market, in combination with the performance projected for 2025 alongside Juan Soto, Pete could seek revenge and enter free agency to get the contract he craves and that his agent Scott Boras did not get him

2025 NFL Draft winners and losers: Shedeur Sanders falls into both categories, Tom Brady makes the list

Getty Images After 257 picks, the 2025 NFL Draft is officially in the books. The draft started on Thursday with the Browns doing something crazy, and it ended on Saturday with the Browns also doing something crazy, so in a way, the draft truly came full circle. The first round started with a blockbuster trade between Cleveland and Jacksonville that saw the Jaguars move up from the fifth pick to the second overall spot so they could take Travis Hunter. Although Hunter went second overall, one player who had to wait longer than expected to get drafted was Hunter's college teammate at Colorado, Shedeur Sanders. Not only did he fall out of the first round, but he ended up falling all the way to the fifth round before the Browns took him with the 144th overall pick. For this draft, Sanders was both […]

El Clasico: What wild Copa del Rey final win means for FC Barcelona, and what loss means for Real Madrid

Getty Images After FC Barcelona won 3-2 against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, in what was a wild 120 minutes of play, it's now time to think about what's next at both clubs, especially at Real Madrid, where there will be even more doubts about the future of Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, who looks increasingly likely to end his successful spell at the Spanish club after winning 15 trophies. Despite the success, Real Madrid are facing the risk of ending the current 2024-25 season with no trophies, and this might lead the club's president, Florentino Perez, to look for another coach in the summer. Here's what we learned from the final of the Copa del Rey: Hansi Flick continues hot start On the other side, FC Barcelona are more than happy with the decision they made in the summer […]

Giants 2025 NFL Draft takeaways: The wait begins. When will Jaxson Dart be ready?

The silver lining to a horrible 2024 New York Giants season was that it set up a fascinating offseason build-up to the 2025 NFL Draft. The current regime, led by GM Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll, was put on notice by ownership. Fix this, or …They needed, it seemed, to deliver big during the draft. Time will tell if that’s what they did, but in terms of taking some big swings to turn things around, Schoen and Daboll didn’t disappoint.AdvertisementIt all started Day 1, with the Giants selecting Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick before making a huge splash by trading back into the first round for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart — the franchise’s first QB selection since using the No. 6 pick on Daniel Jones in 2019.The Giants then tackled some of […]

Bears 2025 NFL Draft takeaways: Newcomers reflect Ben Johnson’s vision, energy

LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Defensive tackle Shemar Turner was the Bears’ fourth pick of the NFL Draft — and their third in the second round — but he quickly became a headliner with his news conferences. The relentlessness and edge he plays with came through in his words.“It’s just a fire inside me — kill,” Turner said Friday night. “Take their lunch money because … offensive linemen really ain’t worth nothing, bro. They really can’t block me.”AdvertisementThe Bears want that attitude in the middle of their defense. They want that energy — and Turner has always been that way.“To me, you can’t be a football player, especially a D-lineman, putting your nose in there, putting your hand in the dirt, if you ain’t got a little something to you, bro,” Turner said. “So you’ve always got to play with a […]
