Jerry Jones surprises with signing of offensive lineman who retired at 25

Jerry Jones’ work to outline the Dallas Cowboys roster for the 2025 NFL season continues, and while the spotlight is on linebacker Micah Parsons‘ contract renewal, one of the main concerns is to support quarterback Dak Prescott so that he can live up to expectations and guide the team to a successful postseason.

With the retirement of future Hall of Famer Zack Martin, Dallas needs to shore up the offensive line, but surprised with its choice of Saahdiq Charles, who had said goodbye to the gridiron at the age of 25, but according to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, the offensive lineman will sign with the Cowboys.

Josh Allen had some words for Dak Prescott after signing huge contract extension

“According to a source, the Cowboys will sign veteran offensive lineman Saahdiq Charles. The former Commanders draft player is officially back in the league and in the NFC East,” Garafolo posted on his X account.

Saahdiq Charles comes out of retirement to join the Cowboys

The Cowboys are expected to give Prescott offensive partners, in addition to CeeDee Lamb, another receiver with reliable hands is needed and, above all, a running back to give him options, but the line is key for any quarterback, which is why it is surprising that guard Saahdiq Charles was chosen, less than a year after retiring at just 25 years old.

Charles was a fourth-round pick of the Washington Commanders in the NFL Draft in 2020, at overall position 108, from LSU, but only participated in 35 games, 18 of which he was designated as a starter.

In the 2024 offseason, he signed with the Tennessee Titans, but in August he retired after leaving training camp. In March, he decided to return to the NFL and after holding workouts with Dallas in early April, he is ready to sign a contract with the Cowboys.

With the addition of Charles, Dallas strengthens an offensive line that currently consists of Tyler Smith, Cooper Beebe, Tyler Guyton, Robert Jones and Terence Steele.

2025 NFL Draft winners and losers for Day 2: Steelers still need a QB; Shedeur Sanders’ free fall continues

Getty Images For the second straight day, the biggest story at the NFL Draft continues to be Shedeur Sanders. It wasn't a total shock to see him fall out of the first round on Thursday, but it was absolutely stunning to see him go undrafted on Day 2. There were a total of 70 picks made on Friday, and although three of them were quarterbacks, Sanders' name didn't get called. Yes, the free fall is continuing for Sanders, but he's not the only one who had a bad night. Let's go over our winners and losers from Friday. WINNERS CJ Stroud. It seems like the Texans' only goal in this draft was to make life easier for Stroud. After trading out of the first round, the Texans didn't get to make their first pick until Friday and they made the most of it. […]

Shedeur Sanders slides to 3rd day of 2025 NFL Draft: ‘I’m shocked it’s this bad’

In what can now be accurately described as a shocking slide — arguably the most stunning in NFL history — Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders went unselected through the second and third rounds of the NFL Draft on Friday. He will now wait to see if his name is called on Saturday, the final day of the draft, which encompasses rounds four through seven.Even amongst Sanders’ critics, his fall through the first 102 picks in the draft has been stunning. One former NFL general manager who scouted Sanders in both the 2023 and 2024 college football seasons — and who had historically been lukewarm in his assessments — expressed surprise that Sanders will be available when the fourth round opens on Saturday.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“I’m shocked it’s this bad,” he said. “I thought he was a [second to third round grade] in reality, […]

Gary Trent Jr. rescues Bucks with historic 3-point outburst, and here’s why Damian Lillard wasn’t surprised

Getty Images MILWAUKEE -- Way back in September, before the Milwaukee Bucks had gotten off to a 2-8 start, or bounced back to win the NBA Cup, or traded franchise icon Khris Middleton, or saw Damian Lillard go down with a blood clot, or fallen behind the Indiana Pacers 2-0 in their first-round playoff series, the hot topic at media day was free-agent signing Gary Trent Jr.The veteran shooting guard had surprised many around the league by inking a one-year, veteran minimum contract with the Bucks in a move that was hailed as arguably the best value signing of the summer. Few in Milwaukee knew him better than Lillard, who was Trent's veteran when he entered the league with the Portland Trail Blazers. "I remember him being extremely confident," Lillard said at media day. What we learned from Day 2 of 2025 NFL Draft: Packers taking WR needs seriously; Cowboys’ arrow pointing up?

Getty Images Three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft are now in the books after Friday night. And one massive name, Shedeur Sanders, did not have his name called for a second consecutive day, leaving countless analysts to forecast where -- or if -- the polarizing Colorado quarterback will come off the board on Day 3.Sanders isn't the only story of the draft, of course. Yet he's an awfully important one, considering several teams still in dire need of long-term quarterback help (see: the Pittsburgh Steelers) passed on the opportunity to secure him multiple times. That's why he's the headliner of our major takeaways from the second day of 2025 NFL Draft action, which included a handful of other surprises, including a couple of quarterbacks not named Sanders coming off the board in the third round.Which incoming players changed the […]

Panthers double down at OLB. Is Jadeveon Clowney’s Carolina stint coming to an end?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Friday night felt like a changing of the guard at edge rusher for the Carolina Panthers, with two coming in and one seemingly on his way out.Panthers general manager Dan Morgan traded up twice to take a pair of outside linebackers from the SEC — Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton and Ole Miss’ Princely Umanmielen, who will bring distinct pass rush styles when they arrive in Charlotte for next month’s rookie minicamp.Watching the second night of the draft unfold, you began to count the edge rushers on Carolina’s roster and wondered what had to give.
