As King Charles and Queen Camilla marked their 20th wedding anniversary during a state visit to Italy on April 9, 2025, the Queen shared some personal insights into their happy relationship.
In a conversation with reporters, Camilla revealed the key to their lasting marriage-friendship, laughter, and a shared sense of humor.
Reflecting on their two decades together, Camilla expressed amazement at how quickly the time had passed. “Twenty years, who could believe it was 20 years? What is the secret? I don’t know… well… I suppose it’s just sort of friendship, really,” she said as per Hello!, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and companionship.
The role of laughter in their marriage
Camilla further explained that their ability to laugh at the same things and navigate life together has played a significant role in their bond.
“Laughing at the same things, getting on with life,” she added, noting that the joy they share has made their relationship strong and enduring.
As the royal couple continues their public duties, their deep connection shines through, both in their professional roles and personal moments.
“We are always going in different directions, like ships that pass in the night really. We whizz past each other. In fact we have got a bit of a catch-up this afternoon,” she noted.
She also noted that the couple will exchange gifts once they return to the UK.
“We are going to save that,” Queen Camilla said, per the outlet. “Otherwise…you have to rush it. You don’t have time to say anything. No, I think we might dig into our pockets and pull something out at the end of the day.”
Queen Camilla’s reflections offer a glimpse into the foundation of their marriage, which is grounded in lightheartedness and friendship. Their shared experiences and laughter remain at the core of what has made their partnership so successful over the years.
