Erst Erlangen geschlagen, jetzt Stuttgart im Visier! Für den SC Magdeburg geht’s Schlag auf Schlag. Trainer Bennet Wiegert (43) bleibt trotz Heimspiel-Marathon (drei Spiele in neun Tagen) und Mini-Pause vor dem Duell gegen die Schwaben am Mittwoch (20 Uhr/Dyn) wachsam – und deutlich!
Wiegert: „Jeder Erfolg ist jetzt wichtig. Wir sind jetzt in der Crunchtime der Liga. Wir haben, glaube ich, noch 12 Punktspiele in der Handball-Bundesliga. Wir alle sehen, was in der Handball-Bundesliga passieren kann, was los ist. Jeder Punkt ist jetzt hier Gold wert.“
[–>Die Liga ist ein Pulverfass – und Wiegert weiß, wie schnell es knallen kann: „Ich weiß, was uns genauso passieren kann, wenn wir nicht ready sind. Das geht rucki zucki. Und das ist nicht bloß auswärts schwer, da kann auch jedes Heimspiel schwer werden. Deswegen: Wir haben noch eine lange Reise in der Saison. Freuen wir uns einfach darauf.“
Klingt nach harter Arbeit – und die geht auch ohne Spiel weiter. Zwar hatte der SCM am Wochenende spielfrei, weil das Final Four stattfand. Wiegert hätte lieber gespielt: „Ich muss ehrlich sagen, dass ich gerne gespielt hätte, weil wir noch so viel nachzuholen haben. Ich hätte mir vielleicht ein Spiel gewünscht, um am Ende nicht in die absolute Zeitnot zu geraten, in der wir irgendwie schon sind.“

Trotzdem: Durchpusten ist erlaubt. „Die Jungs haben jetzt wirklich drei Tage frei. Ich habe genug zu tun mit dem Staff, die nächsten Spiele schon vorzubereiten, weil wir wenig Zeit dazwischen haben. Die Jungs sollen wirklich mental regenerieren, um dann vor allem mental frisch in die nächsten Wochen zu gehen.“
Und die haben es in sich: Erst Stuttgart, dann die Löwen – danach Champions League. Wiegert: „Stuttgart kann ich fertigstellen, weil sie keine Spiele mehr haben. Bei den Rhein-Neckar Löwen muss ich die Spiele beim Final Four abwarten. Da kommt man automatisch in Zeitdruck. Aber das kennen wir. Das ist auch nichts Neues. Das ist kein Jammern oder so. Wir freuen uns, dass wir das machen dürfen.“
