Cam Ward may be one of the brightest stars to wear a Miami Hurricanes jersey in recent years, but his confidence is starting to rub some fans the wrong way.
The quarterback, who transferred to Miami for the 2024 season, put up record-breaking numbers: 4,313 passing yards, 39 touchdowns, and a 67.2% completion rate, and was considered a Heisman contender for much of the year. His electric play has vaulted him into the conversation as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Cam Ward’s confidence doesn’t sit well with Hurricanes’ fans
Ward’s meteoric rise and his leadership of a high-powered Miami offense have led some to include him in discussions among the Hurricanes’ greats.
That conversation turned controversial when Ward was recently asked to name his Mount Rushmore of Miami football players.
“Michael Irvin up there, Ray Lewis, I have to say Andre Johnson as well, then I’ll put my name up there,” Ward said.
While Irvin, Lewis, and Johnson are universally recognized for their legendary contributions to the program, it was Ward’s omission, and inclusion, that drew sharp criticism.
Miami fans were quick to notice that Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp didn’t make the cut.
A dominant force in the ’90s, Sapp won the Lombardi Award and earned All-American honors while anchoring one of the most feared defenses in college football history.
On social media, fans didn’t hold back.
One user wrote, “Wow!! No love for Sapp?”
Another added, “Leaving Sapp off the list is diabolical.”
Adding to the backlash was the perception that Ward’s one-year stint in Coral Gables might not warrant a place among the program’s legends.
Before transferring to Miami, Ward played at Incarnate Word and Washington State.
Despite his impressive stats, critics questioned whether a single season, without a playoff appearance, justified his self-nomination.
Still, Ward stands by his confidence.
“The tape says everything, I believe, and I’m honest to that,” he said during the NFL Combine.
“But I think what separates me from everybody is the way I approach it, the mindset that I have going to the field each and every game. Coming from my journey, not a lot of people can do that.”
With the NFL Draft fast approaching, Ward remains in contention with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders to be the first quarterback selected.
