The 2025 WNBA Draft was always destined to be a night to remember for Paige Bueckers, but the newly-minted star of the Dallas Wings made sure to add her own signature touch – one that had fans smiling from ear to ear.
After being selected as the No.1 overall pick by the Wings, the UConn legend wasted no time recreating her viral 2024 dance moment with TikTok star Janae Sims, giving fans a nostalgic encore that quickly took the internet by storm.
As WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert called Bueckers‘ name, the crowd roared and camera flashes lit up the room. But beyond the expected draft night celebrations, Bueckers delivered a personal fan-favorite moment.
In a video shared by Sims on X, Bueckers was seen in sleek black attire effortlessly matching Sims’ dance moves – just as she did during the 2024 WNBA Draft when their first collaboration garnered over 5 million views.
“This what yall wanted?” Sims captioned the video, as fans flooded the post with praise for Bueckers’ carefree, down-to-earth vibe.
Speaking after her selection, the 23-year-old guard admitted, “It’s super surreal.” And while being the top pick seemed like destiny for the decorated UConn star, the emotions of draft night still hit hard.
A Night of Class and Heartfelt Moments
True to form, Bueckers made sure her draft moment was about more than just herself. Her first hug went to UConn teammate Azzi Fudd, followed by a warm embrace with legendary coach Geno Auriemma.
In her post-selection interview, Bueckers thanked her family, teammates, coaches, and even her fellow draft invitees – specifically hoping to see Kaitlyn Chen and Aubrey Griffin hear their names called.
Hours later, her wishes came true as Chen joined the Golden State Valkyries, while Griffin was selected by the Minnesota Lynx.
True to her generous spirit, Bueckers celebrated Chen’s selection by sporting both Wings and Valkyries caps in photos – a gesture that further endeared her to fans.
The ‘Paige Effect’ Hits Dallas Hard
Beyond the viral dances and warm-hearted interviews, Bueckers‘ arrival in Dallas is already generating real impact.
Wings CEO Greg Bibb made it clear that drafting Bueckers was about more than basketball – it was about changing the landscape of women’s sports in North Texas.
“I am confident that if we draft Paige Bueckers, she will move the needle for the Dallas Wings and women’s basketball in North Texas,” Bibb said.
That statement is already proving true. The Wings experienced a staggering $50,000 surge in ticket sales immediately after drafting Bueckers, with season memberships selling out five months ahead of last year’s pace. Her jersey is expected to be a top-seller the moment it hits the market.
The Next Chapter: Bueckers vs. Caitlin Clark
With Caitlin Clark setting the WNBA ablaze last season for the Indiana Fever, fans are eager to see how Bueckers will measure up.
The two have been linked since their high school days, dominating college basketball and now poised to headline a new era of WNBA rivalry.
Their first professional showdown is already circled on calendars – June 27, when the Wings host the Fever in Dallas.
