The damning Shedeur Sanders stat that predicts a potential “bust” in the NFL

The 2025 NFL Draft is set to change the lives of hundreds of college football prospects. As it nears, some clarity appears to be happening in regard to the top of the draft. Everything is pointing to the first three picks being Cam Ward, Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter. After that is where the fun starts, as the New England Patriots could shape the rest of the first round.

Quarterbacks generally rule the top of the draft, but this year’s class is different. Ward has become the clear-cut top guy, while Shedeur Sanders‘ draft stock appears to be slipping, while Jaxson Dart might be giving him a run for his money to be the second quarterback taken. While many believe NFL front offices have soured on Sanders due to his strong personality, there might be underlying factors that have more to do with his on-field performance.

Shedeur Sanders impresses with his arm strength at training camp

Shedeur Sanders’ college sack numbers don’t paint a pretty NFL picture

As outlined by several draft analysts, Sanders’ penchant for being sacked in college is a very poor indicator for his future success in the NFL. It’s likely a concern many NFL franchises share.

Sanders’ sack numbers should definitely be taken with context. Colorado’s offensive line was flat-out terrible during Sanders’ two seasons there. He wasn’t at fault for a large portion of his sacks, but there’s no denying the correlation between college sack rate and NFL sack rate.

The most recent examples are Caleb Williams and Will Levis. Levis has practically ended his stint as the Tennessee Titans‘ starting quarterback in only 21 games. Williams is still expected to be a high-level starter in the league, but his rookie season with the Chicago Bears left a lot to be desired, while fellow rookie Jayden Daniels shined.

There are warnings signs when it comes to Sanders. It’s why his name isn’t being mentioned anymore among the first eight picks of the draft.
