Ist er gut genug für Real Madrid?
William Saliba (24) von Arsenal soll Wunschkandidat der Los Blancos sein. Ein bisschen Bernabéu-Luft konnte der Innenverteidiger in dieser Woche schon schnuppern – als er ausgerechnet mit seinem aktuellen Team die Madrilenen aus der Champions League warf. Vielleicht wird Madrid bald seine neue Heimat. Doch Ex-Brasilien-Star Julio Baptista (43) rät ihm in einem Interview mit dem Portal „Footitalia.com“ davon ab.
[–>Konkret sagte Baptista: „Bevor man zu einem riesigen Klub wie Real Madrid wechselt, muss man mehr zeigen. Es reicht nicht, in fünf oder zehn Spielen zu zeigen, was man kann. Du musst Jahr für Jahr einer der besten Spieler der Welt sein, um dir den Respekt und das Interesse eines Klubs wie Real Madrid zu erarbeiten.“
Der ehemalige Mittelfeldspieler weiß, wovon er redet: 2005 bis 2008 stand er bei Real unter Vertrag. In der Saison 2006/07 war er zwischenzeitlich zu Arsenal ausgeliehen.
Ob Saliba darauf hören wird? Interesse scheint Real schon zu haben. Mögliche Ablöse: 120 Millionen Euro. Der Franzose ist inzwischen einer der besten Innenverteidiger der Welt, stand in dieser 44 Mal für die Gunners auf dem Platz und schoss zwei Tore.
Bereits 2019 bekam Saliba den Vertrag in London, wurde aber mehrfach ausgeliehen. 2019 zurück zur AS Saint-Etienne, von der er kam, dann zu OGC Nizza und in der Saison 2021/22 an Olympique Marseille.
Dass Saliba zu den Besten gehört, erkennt auch Baptista an: „Er hat einen großen Anteil an Arsenals Verbesserung in den letzten Jahren. (…) Aber ich würde gerne sehen, dass er mit Arsenal eine Trophäe gewinnt, bevor er geht.“

Möglich wäre das noch. Das Meisterrennen gegen Liverpool hat Arsenal zwar verloren, dafür stehen sie im Halbfinale der Champions League. Dort wartet zwar der französische Meister PSG, dennoch ist noch alles möglich für die Londoner.
Saliba könnte also mit Titel in der Tasche im Sommer nach Madrid wechseln.
