ARLINGTON, Texas — The Los Angeles Dodgers will be without their most trusted reliever from last October’s World Series run for the foreseeable future, as the organization placed veteran right-hander Blake Treinen on the injured list on Saturday with right forearm inflammation.
Treinen is set to receive an MRI on Saturday, which will paint a clearer picture of just how concerned they should be going forward with their bullpen stalwart. Treinen hadn’t pitched in six days after noting some discomfort to the club’s medical staff. When he tried to warm up during Friday night’s win over the Texas Rangers, his forearm flared up again.

“Level of concern not too high right now,” Roberts said Saturday. They’ll know more soon.
Treinen’s injury is certainly not ideal. The Dodgers re-signed him to a two-year, $18 million deal this offseason as part of an overall investment in their bullpen that included Tanner Scott (four years, $72 million) and Kirby Yates (one year, $13 million). In eight appearances this season, Treinen has a 3.38 ERA with 10 strikeouts and three walks.
Treinen hits the shelf just as the Dodgers were set to receive reinforcements. Evan Phillips was activated Saturday off the injured list after missing the first 21 games of the season (and last year’s World Series) with a partial tear on the back of his rotator cuff. He made six rehab appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City and was set for at least one more before Treinen’s injury forced the 30-year-old right-hander into action.
“We feel real confident that he’s ready to go,” Roberts said of Phillips.
The Dodgers still have several of their top options in the interim. Scott has recorded seven saves, though he hasn’t had the same swing-and-miss in the early going that made him so sought after in free agency. Yates has a 1.74 ERA. Alex Vesia remains a trusted member of the back end of the bullpen.
But for Treinen, who missed most of 2022 and all of 2023 with shoulder trouble that ultimately needed surgery, it’s a concerning setback.
