Kadarius Toney isn’t stepping away from the NFL just yet. The former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver and two-time Super Bowl champion took to social media this week to silence swirling rumors that he was retiring from football to pursue a full-time rap career.
The speculation, which gained traction after reports claimed Toney had made the announcement during an Instagram Live, prompted plenty of speculation across social media. But the 25-year-old wideout quickly shut it all down in his Instagram Story, calling out the internet chatter for what it was.
“Goofies on the net hollerin I’m retiring,” Toney wrote. “Just want klout. Ain’t speakin on the nomo. Love da attention for my musik tho. It’s been a passion.”
Toney, who raps under the name Yung Joka, has been releasing music throughout his NFL career. His most recent album dropped in 2024, and he currently boasts over 19,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. While he’s passionate about music, Toney made it clear that his football journey isn’t over yet.
NFL career still in search of a bounce-back
Toney‘s on-field career, however, hasn’t exactly matched the hype that surrounded him coming out of the University of Florida. Drafted 20th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Giants, he showed flashes of elite playmaking ability but struggled with injuries and consistency. After just a season and a half, he was traded to the Chiefs in 2022.
Though his numbers were modest, Toney made key contributions during Kansas City‘s Super Bowl run, including a pivotal touchdown and an electrifying punt return in Super Bowl LVII. Still, despite his big-game heroics, Toney didn’t return to the team in 2024. He later signed with the Cleveland Browns, but played in only three games last season-and didn’t record a single catch.
To date, Toney‘s NFL resume includes just 875 receiving yards and four total touchdowns across four seasons.
