St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle once again played host to the Royal Family‘s traditional Easter Sunday service, but this year’s gathering came with a few notable shifts.

Among those in attendance were King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who were joined by a surprisingly upbeat Prince Andrew, despite his continued status outside the fold of senior royal duties.

The 65-year-old Duke of York, who has remained largely in the background since being stripped of his royal patronages and military titles, arrived at the 15th-century chapel with a wide grin, appearing in high spirits as he joined his older brother and other royals for the annual Easter Matins service.

Andrew‘s cheerful demeanor stood in stark contrast to recent weeks, when he had been photographed looking visibly sombre during a solo horseback ride around the Windsor estate.

That March 10 outing came shortly after it was confirmed he would not participate in the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey-a key event for senior royals-where Charles, Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate were all scheduled to appear, though the Waleses ultimately missed that engagement too.

Prince and Princess of Wales absent again, prioritizing family time

In a continuation of their focus on private family life, Prince William and Princess Catherine were absent from this year’s Easter service as well. The couple opted to spend the holiday weekend at their Norfolk residence, Anmer Hall, with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis ahead of the return to school.

A royal source shared with The Mirror that the Waleses are prioritizing quality time together as a family. Their absence mirrors last year’s, when Kate, now publicly confirmed to be in remission following a cancer diagnosis, had begun her health battle away from the public eye.
