The Prince and Princess of Wales will celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary next Tuesday in a surprisingly humble and heartfelt way-by staying in a self-catering cottage on the remote Scottish Isle of Mull during a two-day royal visit.
Returning to the country where their love story began, William and Kate will carry out engagements highlighting local crafts, farming, and conservation efforts. The trip marks a special full-circle moment for the couple, who first met as students at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
April 29 marks 14 years since the couple’s wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011. Despite their busy schedule, it’s expected they’ll carve out time for a quiet anniversary dinner-though it’s unclear who will be cooking at their secluded cottage.
Their marriage has grown alongside their growing family. They now share three children-Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis-and continue to show unity, especially following Kate’s recent cancer diagnosis and treatment.
A scenic setting with historical significance
The Isle of Mull, off Scotland’s west coast, once belonged to the Lord of the Isles-a title now held by William. When in Scotland, the couple uses their Scottish titles: the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.
Their visit begins in Tobermory, famously known as the setting of the BBC children’s series Balamory. Here, they’ll tour a local community hub and the Tobermory Producers Market to meet local artisans and sample regional produce.
Later, they’ll visit a croft and restaurant on the island’s west coast, where they’ll meet farmers raising Hebridean sheep and help harvest ingredients for the kitchen.
On the final day of their visit, William and Kate will meet countryside rangers from the Mull and Iona Ranger Service at the Ardura Community Forest. They’ll join a school group for an outdoor learning session and meet children from Ardura Acorns, an early years playgroup focused on nature-based education like animal tracking and den-building.
Their visit aims to spotlight the importance of community-driven sustainability and environmental protection.
This return to work follows a family-oriented Easter break. The couple chose to skip the royal family’s traditional Easter Sunday service at Windsor Castle to spend quality time with their children. Instead, they attended a church service in Sandringham, where they were seen receiving hot cross buns after the service.
